Extension of Lark Spinnaker Pole Trial
Those of you who attended the AGM or read the AGM papers will know that your Committee is proposing to hold a vote on allowing a longer spinnaker pole.
A lot of work has been put in by Samuel Bailey, Chris White and Nigel Hufton, including trials on boats at South Staffs, talking to class sailmakers and other classes who have made similar changes.
All the info can be found in the Lark Pole Length Proposal document.
The plan was to hold a vote in December, but following a good discussion at the AGM and a number of questions/concerns that people have raised with the Committee since then, the trial has been extended to allow more people to see and experience the new longer pole.
Therefore, the Class is going to purchase 2 longer spinnaker poles for use in Lark club racing, and Lark Open meetings between the Dinghy Show and the start of the Lark Nationals in late May. We will devise a rota, and Lark sailors can use the new pole on their own boats in a racing environment. Dispensation will be given for use in Open Meetings - but not the National Championships - after which we will move to a vote to adopt or reject the longer pole option.
I would like to thank all those who have been involved in the trial to date, without whom we wouldn’t be able to further trial this potential development.
