End of Classes and Beginning of the 2022-2023 Winter Break
Teachers and students enjoyed the last three days of classes and began a well-deserved winter break beginning on Thursday, December 22, 2022. The day before the holidays, special activities were held in all the school sections. Here is an overview of the holiday spirit experienced across ASV:
Preschool and Elementary School
Santa visited Preschool classes to wish a happy holiday to our youngest students and give them little presents. Elementary classes had some class periods for special learning projects, holiday arts and crafts, movie parties and other celebrations. In these two sections, the winners of the door decoration contest celebrated it by holding pizza parties.

Middle School and High School
Middle School and High School groups completed the holiday decoration in their doors and had two periods for art and sports activities in the afternoon.

ASV Sustainability Committee
In recent years, the school has embarked on a transition towards a more sustainable model from an energy and environmental point of view. The result of this transition has been, for example, the installation of solar panels that supply us with almost half of our electricity consumption.
To go a step further in this initiative, a Sustainability Committee has been created and will be composed of students, faculty, families, administration and non-teaching staff, which meets periodically (2-4 meetings per year) and audits, monitors and promotes the school's sustainability initiatives. For practical reasons, the meetings will be conducted in English.
The first meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 15:00 in the Theater. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Sustainability Committee, please complete this form.

Winter Holiday Concert and Cookies Events
Thank you to the over 750 parents and family members who came to the Preschool and Elementary School Holiday Concert and Cookies events to celebrate the season with their students, and our faculty and staff through music and dance performances.
Students worked very hard with our Performing Arts Teacher, Mr. Raúl Marco and their classroom teachers to learn the dances and music for this year’s performance. This year’s concert was another great example of teamwork!
The video recording will be shared with the school community in January 2023 once they are edited, revised and available. We hope you enjoy viewing the videos with your students and family. In the meantime, have a safe, relaxing and wonderful Winter Holiday break!

International Students Learn more about Turrones and Polvorones
Children in the Spanish course for international students (Spanish as Additional Language - SAL) taught by Ms. Ana Arjona completed a delicious assignment on Spanish holiday sweets.
They learned to differentiate the two traditional types of nougats, Xixona and Alicante (in the first one, almonds are crushed), as well as they tasted other flavors and polvorones. “Then we voted which one we liked best. It was a very enjoyable activity,” Ms Arjona described.
Students also shared their greeting cards showing winter landscapes.
