Southern California Desert in late December 2022

Farewell 2022, Weclome 2023!

This year's most significant homework, task, and nerve-wracking moments to me went well! I didn't cry at my daughter's wedding! I even managed the mother of the bride's speech without having a major problem ( I have to confess that I read through the speech instead of giving a real speech so I don't get too emotional...) My daughter's wedding day had started with strong wind and stormy rain but the event went smoothly. I recalled that my own wedding day was rainy and my son-in-law's parents told me that they had rain on their wedding day also. Koreans say that if you have rain on your wedding day, you will have a long, happy, and prosperous marriage. So we decided to take this wet weather as a good sign for happy long marriage! The couple was so happy to vow as a husband and a wife. Thank you so much for your kind and sweet words, hugs, and love.

In the past, this project, oksa mobile, square mobile, and dumpling, got so much love from many of you. So I decided to make kits again and offer a class to teach how to make this with Making.
If you already know how to make them and want to have materials, Kits are available to purchase here. If you want to sign up, please join the Making App, a unique community for makers and creative souls. I love this community and recently I was interviewed by Ashley for the podcast. When it is available to listen, I will update you with the link!

When I came back home from Korea last October, I brought my dad's calligraphy practice sheets (again). I brought some in the past and I have a shelf full of his practice sheets now. I was thinking to create something using his papers sometime but was not able to start until last month. The idea came to me one morning. I wanted to keep and record his time and effort in my work. The paper he uses for practice is called 화선지, Hwa seon ji, lighter weight paper than 한지, Hanji, mulberry paper. It’s more fragile than Hanji but great material for everyday practice. I have a little progress so far but enjoy working on this family collaboration piece. Thanks, dad for teaching me and showing me to try hard and be perseverant. Someday, I will get better and more confident just like you!
