NEW from the OPD

Take part in a Peer Mentoring Group, organized by the OPD 🔴🔵
Groups meet Feb 2023 - May 2023 | Sign up to participate in a peer mentor group by January 2, 2023 | Read more about the Peer Mentoring Program
Peer mentor groups are groups of 4 - 8 graduate students and postdocs, organized around a shared interest or goal. Members of the group can receive many benefits from being part of a peer mentor group, like giving and receiving support through challenges and expanding their professional and social circle by meeting students and postdocs from other programs/departments. The OPD is organizing peer mentor groups in Spring 2023. Graduate students and postdocs in the Medical School can be involved in a peer mentor group as a facilitator or a participant. Groups will meet at least once per month from February  - May 2023 (at least 4 meetings), and receive a budget of $100 per participant to spend on group activities during this time period. More details about each of these roles is below, and additional details are in this program description.
  • Group Facilitators: Responsible for attending facilitator training (2 hours), administrative organization of the groups, and facilitating meetings. The call for facilitators has closed.
  • Group Participants: Responsible for attending and participating in group meetings. The call for participants is open now and will close January 2, 2023. Those who sign up will receive a notification of their group status from the Office of Professional Development by January 10.

Application Open: UMN Advanced Pathways to Research Program (A-PReP) 🟡
The Advanced Pathways to Research Program (A-PReP) is a research training program for doctoral-level professional health sciences students and early-PhD students interested in clinical and translational research. In addition to a mentored research experience, A-PReP students attend weekly seminars providing a grounding in translational research networking and presentation skills with some of the top researchers at the University. Students build camaraderie and learn from other students in the program while gaining valuable research and career development skills. The summer research experience culminates with a poster presentation at the CTSI Translational Science Symposium & Poster Session in September 2023 and the opportunity to win a travel award to present at a conference of the student’s choosing. A-PReP is an opportunity to take your research career to the next level. Apply by February 10, 2023 for the Summer 2023 program.

Stanford Postdoctoral Recruitment Initiative in Sciences and Medicine (PRISM)
Stanford PRISM was created in 2017 to support underrepresented scholars with the search for excellent mentorship and a quality postdoc opportunity. At Stanford, postdocs work alongside top scientists and at the same time develop their professional skills, explore career options, and prepare for independent careers. Stanford has one of the largest postdoc populations in the country and a strong commitment to making the postdoc experience the best it can possibly be. Priority for acceptance into PRISM may go to US Citizens and Permanent Residents. Eligible applicants are encouraged to contact the PRISM Team (stanfordprism@stanford.edu) for guidance on preparing a successful application and connecting with potential mentors. Apply by February 13, 2023.

A note about job searching at the end of the calendar year:
It's typical to see fewer jobs posted towards the end of the calendar year, as many people celebrate holidays and take time off. If you're currently searching for jobs, anticipate this decrease in the number of open positions as we move through the next couple weeks! The new year often comes with an influx of new job openings as organizations begin their new fiscal year and have a better sense of budgets for new hires.
