Commodore's Christmas Message 2022

On behalf of the RGYC Board, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

With the festive season here already, it’s a time to gather with family and friends to enjoy this special time of the year and to acknowledge all we have achieved together.

Of special note, our Club enjoys a unique place in the sport of sailing and our Festival of Sails is certainly one of the oldest and significant events on the Australian sailing calendar.

In 2023 we will host the 180th Melbourne to Geelong Passage Race; something we should all celebrate and be very proud of.

A very special thankyou to you, our members and staff, and the many ways you have contributed to ensure the success of our Club.

There will be some exciting times ahead for the Club with opportunities for significant regattas in 2023; Fireballs, Cadets and Moths to name a few. It is now time to focus on ensuring this Club is a great club for all members every day of the week and for us all to ensure its future.

That way, when those opportunities arise, we will do them well!

Whatever your plans are for Christmas and January, be it competing in events like the Sydney to Hobart, the Melbourne to Hobart, the Cadet Nationals or Worlds or simply cruising the Bay and beyond, stay safe and enjoy the season.

Again, to all members and staff, Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year and let’s look forward to a great 2023.

Roger Bennett
Commodore.

Note From BUCK II

The Skipper & Crew of Buck II wish to thank a number of people after an incident on Saturday returning from the finish at Portarlington, after a great days sailing!

Our Vessel caught the edge of the sand bar just off Portarlington and we sustained some damage to the motor. The on shore wind strengthened and pushed us further onto the bar rapidly.

We wish to thank the Skipper & Crew of "The Usual Suspects" who were the only vessel to stop, stand by and give assistance at the location of the incident, as well as the marina upon our late return to the pen. True Club Members and Companions!

We would also like to thank the Race Committee on Alpha 1, who despite having their hands full, persevered with us and were able to assist us off the bar.

Finally, we wish to also thank the Coast Guard, who raced to our situation as quick as they could to further assist us if the Committee Boat was unable to assist, and they ensured we had an escort for as long it was needed. Everyone should consider joining the Coast Guard- you never know when you may need them!

Merry Christmas- Buck II Crew
