In this article I want to explore my journey to where I am now in my writing career.
Way back in the mid-nineties I began to write fan-fiction online, back then I was an enormous fan of Babylon Five, a sci-fi series. I was terrified the first time I put one of my stories out there, but readers were kind, and I wrote several more stories to increasing demand. A year later I found Xena! I’m a big fan, even today I slip the odd episode into my TV diet, bet you can’t guess my fav episode? I’ve never written a Xena story-line, though I do have one in draft, but unfinished. Uber alt I’m happy to say I loved writing. From then on, I wrote several stories culminating in a story called Define Destiny back in 1998. This novel was eventually taken up for publication and released in September 2022. To say I was excited was an understatement. It was also the same time I made a major personal relocation to live halfway around the world (moving from the UK to NZ), life at that time was full of wonderful changes.
Over the ensuing years I’ve had published 55 stories in different categories. All of which can be found at the Affinity website https://affinityebooks.com/
I try writing different types of story-lines from contemporary, scifi, historical, mystery, all with a romantic entanglement or might be. I love writing, have done so since I was a child. I recently found a few in some boxes unopened from my move from the UK. Yeah, I know twenty years and unopened boxes…I bet I’m not the only one out there who has done this. Anyway, I found old handwritten story-lines in pencil. Summaries generally, but I wrote a whole scenario of Hollywood characters and what their lives were like. The date on the title page indicated I was ten years old. Fifty plus years on I’m amazed at the content. It’s very fragile material now but I’ve vacuum sealed the pages, so they don’t deteriorate any further.
Today I’m currently working on a new novel, with a working title of the Princess’s Aide. To be honest like many of you I’ve had trauma’s during Covid, which has meant that my life and creative juices were not in sync. I’m hoping that 2023, my 21st year as a published author, will finally allow me to complete this new novel for you.
