Brimbank's grassland reserves
Brimbank City Council is home to several patches of critically endangered Plains Grasslands, of which there are less than 1% left in Victoria! When the conditions are suitable, Council undertakes ecological burning of the grasslands which help to maintain healthy ecosystems, encourage native plant growth, and rejuvenate habitat for local wildlife.
The Conservation team recently did an ecological burn in the fenced grassland reserve between Tamar Drive and the Kororoit Creek, in Deer Park. In the coming months, we'll see indigenous grasses coming back stronger, with less invasive weed species to compete with. It's definitely worth a visit to have a look!
