Ski racing volunteer Phyllis Kennedy honoured

A big congratulations to Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal recipient Phyllis Kennedy. The medal is awarded to Albertans who have made significant contributions to the province, their community or fellow citizens. As many in our ski racing community already know, Phyllis is a long standing volunteer. Nearing 25 years being of service to our sport, Phyllis has made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to work with her. Congratulations and thank you Phyllis!

Technical Official Recruitment - Wood Buffalo 2023 Arctic Winter Games 

Friends of the Alpine Ski community, the Arctic Winter Games are seeking your support and have an exciting opportunity for you to experience the 2023 Arctic Winter Games!
The Arctic Winter Games is a high profile circumpolar sport competition for northern and arctic athletes.  The Games provide an opportunity to strengthen sport development in the participants’ jurisdictions, to promote the benefits of sport, to build partnerships, and to promote culture and values.  The Games celebrate sport, social exchange and cultures. The Games provide an opportunity for the developing athlete to compete in friendly competition while sharing cultural values from northern regions around the world.  From January 29-February 4, 2023 Wood Buffalo will welcome approximately 2,100 participants, coaches, mission staff and officials from eight contingents involving 20 Sports for the 2023 Arctic Winter Games (AWG).  Participating contingents are the Yukon, NWT, Alaska, Northern Alberta, Nanavut, Nunavik, Greenland and the Sami (Indigenous) people of Finland, Sweden and Norway.
They are now looking beyond the northern contingent regions and seeking your interest in being an Official for the Alpine Ski event during these Games.  A key remaining role still to fill is that of Race Administrator.  In addition we are looking to fill 2 roles in Timing, ~ 5 Course Crew and 8 Gate Judges.  All positions to comply with the Alberta Alpine minimum Officials Level 1 certification. Read more.

Women to Watch: NorAm Speed Edition

The season’s first Stifel Success NorAm cup speed series has wrapped up. Over three days, the ladies competed in two downhill and super-G races dueled as both NorAms and National Championships. Tricia Mangan dominated the downhills, while NorAm overall leader Kiki Alexander captured victory in both super-Gs. Read more.

Women to Watch: NorAm Tech Edition

Unsurprisingly, to start the season, some of the top names in junior racing and the fastest skiers of the 2021-22 NorAm circuit returned to the limelight in the opening Stifel Success NorAm races.

With a later start to the season, the ladies raced on good winter conditions during the series-opening competitions in Copper Mountain, CO. Predictably, It was a battle between USA and Canada for the top spots that wonderfully included some surprising come-backs. Read more.
