Award Winning Film Tackling the Language of Social Work
We recently produced a training film developed and starring care leavers and young people in care from North Yorkshire, about ‘tackling the language of care’. This film was used in training with professionals including newly qualified social workers and shared at a Lived Experience Conference organised by the Teaching Partnership. It has provoked and prompted discussions about what needs to change and how to better support children and young people.
On Tuesday 25 October 2022 the film won the Campaign Award at A National Voice ‘Amplify' event in Manchester which celebrated the amazing work done by Children in Care Councils.

Video of Autism The Voice of Autistic Colleagues
Autism: The Voice of Autistic Colleagues
This inspiring video looks at the difficulties people on the autism spectrum face with interactions with others. No two autistic people are the same and how autism affects the individual can vary enormously.  The video produced by the Teaching Partnership aims to help break the stereotype and show that being on the autistic spectrum can be a gift.  With a little understanding and care, we can all get along better.

The Oliver McGown Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism
The training was developed as a result of Right to be Heard the Government’s response to the consultation on mandatory training on learning disability and autism for health and social care staff.  It was named after Oliver McGowan a young man whose death shone a light on the need for health and social care staff to have better skills, knowledge and understanding of the needs for autistic people and people with a learning disability.
The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is delivered in 2 tiers.  Practitioners only complete the relevant Tier for their job role.  Practitioners must first complete the mandatory e-learning followed by Tier 1 or Tier 2 of the standardised Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training.
  • Tier 1 is for people who require general awareness of the support autistic people or people with a learning disability may need.  It is a 1 hour online interactive session co-delivered by experts.
  • Tier 2 is for people who may need to provide care and support for autistic people or people with a learning disability.  It is a 1 day face to face session co-delivered by experts.
The e-learning is now live.  The on-line and face to face training will commence this year.  Please see your employer for details of the Tier 1 and 2 training.

Local Authority staff please see your workforce development team before completing for your local process for logging completion on your training record.

The Anti-Racist Listening Project Podcast
The Anti-Racist Listening Project is a way to connect with people out there doing the work of anti-racism and to encourage those that aren’t sure where to start to give it a go, after all anti-racism is all about action.  They aim to demystify what conversations about anti-racism sound like, how they happen and most importantly what we can all learn from them.
The podcast features social workers, colleagues from other professions, friends and family in conversation, sharing their experiences of “doing anti-racism” exploring the challenges and positive change that is happening from a lived experience and allyship perspective.

Each episode has a message about anti-racist action to take away and think about but most importantly it is a call to action.
