DECEMBER 2022
2022 was a big year for ISI! As we celebrated our Golden Anniversary, it was a time to look at our past and toward our future.

During these past 50 years many smart, talented, hard-working people have called ISI home. We heard from some of them in the Cloudwalkers documentary premiere at our 50th Anniversary Celebration. The legacy of those early innovators continues with the work being done by ISIers today.

Our researchers worked passionately on solving the world’s most difficult technical problems, which was the mission of ISI when it was founded in 1972.

2022 was also a time to look toward the future. We hosted the Symposium on the Future of Computing Research to explore how computing research must evolve in the decades to come. We launched the Center on Artificial Intelligence Research for Health to facilitate AI collaborations for the future of healthcare. We acquired the first 5,000+ qubit D-Wave quantum computing system in the United States. And we brought astronaut Danny Olivas onboard to help us pioneer AI in space.

Looking forward, my goal is to continue to be at the forefront of computing research and to make the world a better place.
