Friend,
In 1968, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., joined with the National Welfare Rights Organization, workers’ rights movement, women’s rights movement, religious leaders, and people of all races to launch the Poor People’s Campaign to fight poverty in the U.S. and ensure basic economic and human rights.

More than 50 years later, the fight continues. Despite the fact that the country’s wealth has skyrocketed, many still live in poverty, struggle to feed their families, and lack basic needs—like food, housing, health care, quality education, and safe communities.

The kind of extreme inequality we have in the U.S. is no accident. It is the result of decades of public policies that benefit the wealthy at the expense of working people. The Economic Policy Institute (EPI) has been a crucial voice in calling attention to stagnating wages for working people, rising inequality, and the policies that are to blame.

Time after time, EPI’s research has shown how our system of economic policies panders to the rich while harming the vast majority, and has also shown what needs to happen to create economic justice. I hope you will consider making a tax-deductible year-end gift to EPI to fund their critical research in 2023

EPI’s research sheds light on how we can help improve the rights and welfare of poor people. I am proud to have partnered with them over the years to shift the narrative on economic justice. As we build the power of this movement and move toward an economy that prioritizes people over corporations, we need EPI standing with us. That’s why I am asking you to help them meet their end of year fundraising goals by making a gift to EPI today.

Happy holidays and thank you for standing with U.S. workers by investing in EPI.
