Welcome, new folks!

Hi, there. I've had a number of people join the mailing list recently. I want to make sure everybody gets their free Frosthelm book, Traitors Unseen. If you haven't gotten it, you can get it free here (the site will ask you to sign up for this newsletter, which you're already getting) or here from Smashwords. It's also on Apple BooksKobo, and Barnes & Noble. Please, enjoy with my compliments.

Got Trouble is mere away...

Got Trouble is at my copy-editor/proofreader as we speak. When she's done with it, I'll make any necessary changes, get the cover and formatting complete, and then be ready to release it into the world! I'm really pumped about this one, my first thriller. I'm so excited for you to meet Glynnis and all the trouble she scares up as her world falls apart (through no fault of her own). Glynnis is a fan of musicals, so "Got Trouble" is a reference to The Music Man.

Fans of my books know I like to include silly chapter titles, so here they are for Got Trouble, as a little sneak preview:

Depending on when exactly I get this finished and released, I may do a special note to this list to announce the release. Otherwise, it should be out by January 1st, and I can share it then. There's an intro and blurb on my website if you want to check the book out.

Other updates
I have my new science fiction book (working title Kenai) out to several readers, including Reader #1, my wife. I'm getting some good feedback and am excited to dive into revising that in the new year. I tried something big conceptually with that book, and I'm sure I'll need to polish it some to get it to work for readers.

My NaNoWriMo book, another suspense/thriller story, is nearly done as a first draft, although I'm having a little difficulty pulling the ending together in a satisfying way. I broke off from that for a bit to get the other two books edited (Got Trouble for proofreading, Kenai for initial feedback). I'm thinking hard about what it needs to end well, and I hope to dive back in soon.

I wrote here about my Kickstarter campaign for my card game series, Doctor Esker's Notebook. Well, that campaign has finished up, and it far exceeded my expectations for how it would go. I need to get the game (which was nearly complete before I started the campaign) finished up with the last few edits and submitted to the printers, so that will impact my writing for the next couple of weeks. Then I'll have Christmas with family, so writing time will there will likely be a little hard to come by as I have enjoy time with my family.

Next year, after I get the NaNo suspense/thriller finished and out to my reading team, I want to start another fantasy novel. I haven't decided whether it will be in the Frosthelm/Inquisitors' Guild series or something new, but I do want to have it ready for next year's SPFBO competition, so I'll have to get cracking to meet that deadline.

All in all, a successful end to the year, and I'll have a lot to share with you in the coming months!

Some stories to try

I'm part of several author collectives, and we share each other's work to try to help all of us reach more readers. In many cases, the books we share are are free or discounted. Sometimes, they ask that you sign up for a newsletter like this one.

First, I have a really cool group of books to share. These are all sci fi books that participated in the Self-Published Science Fiction Competition, both last year's and this year's. The SPSFC community is really great, and I've talked and shared with a lot of these authors. Please these out for some of the best books in indie sci fi.

First, I have Moroda by L.L. MacRae. This book has sky pirates, dragon gods, intrigue and destruction. Sounds like great stuff, and MacRae is an award-winning and highly praised author. Please have a look.

Second, I have The Lady's Last Song by Bree Moore. This is an Arthurian story, centering around Guinevere, who is trying to thwart a plot against King Arthur. Several really great reviews on Amazon for this one. Give it a look!

Next, I have Rebel Sword by Richard Davis. Billed as a military fantasy, this story highlights a young knight trying to prove himself and rescue an abducted prince. This is a prequel novella to a longer series, and it's free to download.

Finally, I have Creep by Lou Yardley. This is a free story from Yardley's Venari world, about a military veteran who returns home to face both a monster invasion and also difficult parents. Sounds like fun! Have a look if it sounds like your thing.

Have a great holiday season!

As I finish up a really fun year of writing, I'm so glad that you've come along with me for the ride. I have three new books very close to ready, and I'm so excited to share them with you in the coming weeks and months. I hope you have a safe, healthy, and wonderful end-of-year with family and friends.

May the Bloodmother watch over you -
Dave
