DECEMBER 2022

ISSUE: #12

Ending the year on a high!

Kia orana ki to tatou au kōpu tangata o te eFAMILY!

It is fair to say that this year has been nothing short of amazing. Since the beginning, it has been non-stop for our team and eFAMILIES. We commend you all for your efforts and hard work involved in making this year a success!

This edition we wanted to recap the year that was 2022. From setting up marquees at the IAM Mangere Markets to connecting with service providers through the Activate Tamaki Makaurau x Pacific Business Trust funding, it is evident to see that this year has been an opportunity for growth for us all. We are so grateful to have been trusted to support you on your journey through enterprise and look forward to working alongside you in the New Year.

We also want to inform you that our CIDANZ office will be closed from Friday 23rd December and will reopen again in the new year on Monday 9th January. Our eFAMILY team look forward to reengaging with you all in the New Year.

Finally, on behalf of our team at CIDANZ, we want to wish you and your family a marvelous Christmas and a Happy New Year. May it be filled with an abundance of love, laughter, and Cook Islands donuts <3

Meitaki ma’ata e kia manuia.

eFAMILY 2022 Rewind!

2022 has been an amazing year thanks to all of you! From your involvement in events, to the development of our eFAMILY programme, we have all done extremely well this year.

IAM Mangere Markets

Earlier this year, Toni and the team at I AM Mangere introduced a new series of markets in Mangere to help support and grow the small businesses in the community. We were fortunate to have collaborated with this team and was able to have 11 of our eFAMILIES participate in this series over four different markets; Farmers Market, Social Enterprise Market, Food Truck/Foodie Market and Local Kids Market. It was an awesome first-time experience for Amelia and Emma’s Kitchen and Le Uso Candles, who are our youngest eFAMILY,  8-year-old twins, Aaron and Daniel.

275 Market Day

On 27 May, twosevenfive and IAM Māngere hosted the 275 Market Day to celebrate local businesses and talent coming out of Māngere.  27 May, given its numerical date spells out 27/5 and is also the suburb’s phone prefix number - is the perfect day to come together and mark what makes Mangere so great. We were so pleased to have three of our Māngere-based eFAMILIES participate in this event. We also had a few more awesome wins for our team, as we got to meet new families and had four new eFAMILES join us.

Kapa Nui Market

On 6 August, we were proud to have 10 of our eFAMILIES serve up at the Kapa Nui Aotearoa Festival in the Kapa Markets. The event was a full on, a 10-hour day for our eFAMILIES. We were beyond proud of the efforts of our eFAMILIES who participated in the market, congratulations to you all!  It made the event even better for us to hear of the success of our eFAMILIES – some participating in a market for the first time, a few recording their best sales and especially those that were able to meet new people and make lasting connections.

The F.I.N.E Festival

On 8 October at the Mangere Arts Centre, we had five of our eFAMILIES participate in the F.I.N.E Festival Market. The day was a huge success, filled with festivities, yummy kai and beautiful handmade arts and crafts. It was awesome to see our small Māori and Pacific businesses support our fellow LGBTQI+ community, encouraging them to be true to who they are. For two of our eFAMILIES it was their first-time selling at the market, and they did a splendid job feeding the community in Mangere.

Mangere East Festival

On 26 November the team at the Mangere East Community Centre hosted the annual Mangere Festival.  Two of our eFAMILIES were stallholders on the day and enjoyed success at this event.

Connecting our eFAMILIES with Contract Opportunities

This year we had the privilege of connecting our eFAMILY businesses with contract and work opportunities – many catering contracts, ei and craft-making, seamstress work, landscaping, handywork.

Funding Opportunities

We collaborated with Pacific Business Trust to connect four of our eFAMILIES with Activate Tamaki Makaurau funding which saw them receive up to $7,000 worth of professional business advice and implementation services.

Enterprising Families Programme Development

We are proud of our programme developments this year:

  1. We introduced our Basic Business Set Up service, where we assist families with the foundation activities of set up - choosing a business structure, creating a RealMe login, registering for a New Zealand Business Number (NZBN), basic financial set up and practices, industry compliance checks.

  1. With the support of Robinson Consulting Services Limited we completed the last phase of our programme, Mākirikiri.  This enables us to provide business coaching to support families with pricing, understanding break even, projecting cashflow and profit & loss and writing their own comprehensive business plan.

  1. We were approved as a Business Training and Advice Grant (BTAG) service provider for the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).  This enables us to work with MSD clients who are applying for WINZ flex-wage and start-up grant for their business.  We help clients to complete a business plan, as part of the application process, and provide business mentoring to put the business plan into effect.

eFAMILY updates for 2023

Moving into the new year, we have decided that this will be our last Te Kura ‘Akarangatira newsletter and will transition into delivering monthly content via our Facebook and Instagram page in the New Year. If you would still like to receive updates by email, please contact us on efamily@cidanz.co.nz and we will provide the information by email. We want to thank you for your engagement and want to assure you that our team will continue to connect you with all the relevant information for you and your business.

Before we sign off one final time for 2022, we want to say a massive meitaki ma’ata to you all for supporting our Enterprising Families Team and CIDANZ this past year, it has been a delight working alongside you all and we look forward to what the new year has instore for us.

May this season bring you and your family light and prosperity.

With aro’a,

Bianca and Tiare
