I created the three paintings above as I responded to the idea of Christ being the source of all creation, rooted in the following passage.

|
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:1-5 (NIV)
The images were inspired by spiraling subatomic particles, the flaming sun, and the spinning universe as they visualize Jesus, the one through whom all things have been made. In making three, I found myself touching on aspects of the trinity, even as each piece connects centrally with Jesus. In addition, I wrote the following poem on the same ideas.

Oh Mystery of Creation, the One through which everything flows, the hole in the center of the record, of the universe, turning and alive with sound, spinning around the empty space of you—you who emptied yourself for us, from your place as the one from which all fullness flows—Oh Furnace of Creation, Oh Prince of Light, even darkness began its journeys in you.
Oh Source, we praise you from our created forms, mimicking you in all your fullness.
We praise you for coming to us, even as you held us.

My Devotional: December 19, 2022
|
|
I hope you have been finding the content from this year's Advent Project rich and meaningful. And I hope you can follow along this week especially as it holds the devotional I wrote for December 19. Amid all the content collected for that day, I had the pleasure of responding to the art of my friend David Wallace Haskins. So on Monday, enjoy the meditation, music, poetry, and art that all focus us on a deeper level of seeing.
