Wishing you a festive holiday full of L to R!
Dear <<First Name>>,

For my final newsletter of 2023 I’m going back to my advent series of blogs from last year – that is, I realise that much of my year has been about L to R from the #BeKindToYourselfThisChristmas posts from December 2022.
Listening isn’t always easy – whether listening to my body or, just as importantly, the experts - particularly recently about what I can and can’t do as I recuperate with my new knee.

I’m not one for following conventional wisdom but it certainly paid dividends with the speed of recovery.
When I mentioned this last year, movement was about movement of our bodies.

As I sit here typing I realise however that movement of mindset and beliefs are equally important gifts we can give ourselves.

It was certainly something that cropped up when I celebrated by 60th in November when I more fully understood the meaning behind these words that I first wrote in my book: Can’t see the wood for the trees.
Releasing the old and embracing the new is certainly going to be the theme for much of my work in 2023 – with ideas already percolating about focusing on Catching the next wave – i.e. helping you when you’re at a crossroads or in transition.
In last December’s post, noticing was about being in the moment and more mindful – which are wonderful gifts to give yourself.

This year, however, and perhaps because I had 6 weeks out of the usual work patterns, noticing has been about noticing the zigs and zags:
You’ll find out more about these in a post from the archives.

I suspect the publication earlier in the year of my latest book the Your Prescription for Wellbeing Journal helped reinforce the efficacy of spending time thinking about what works and what doesn’t work when we’re struggling.
Being open for me this year links to movement and being open to new ideas and also letting go of beliefs and even visions of where I thought I was headed.

This links to the insight shared on the 60th birthday newsletter, and the emerging thoughts about what’s next for 2023 and Catching the next wave.
I didn’t realise how impatient I am until I had my new knee – and yet I learnt so much about the gift that patience allows us – not least because patience is what got me the great results; not pushing on regardless.

This is something I covered in my October newsletter where I shared a story about the tortoise and the hare – with the ending linking to the next word – because it’s not what you expect.
Quirky is simply a reminder for me to be me – and reminds me of my "I reclaim all my parts" poem:
And finally...

Rest.

Resting for the first 6 weeks after my new knee laid the foundations for the great progress I’ve made.

I therefore wish you a restful festive break and very joyful new year and look forward to sharing more about my journey going forward in 2023 whilst helping you to catch the next wave.

Much love,

Alison xx

P.S. you’ll find out more about the other A to Z gifts from last year here.
