I am so proud of how hard our students worked the past two weeks on their iReady Reading & Math Assessments. Thank you for discussing and supporting the importance of the assessments with your child so we can get an accurate gauge of how to best differentiate for each of them. Thank you for coming to the Scholastic Book Fair this week. It was wonderful to meet so many families in person and I am grateful to you for making this event a huge success!
It was so fun to see the excitement on the kid’s faces when they discovered a new book. Thank you to all of the volunteers and our school community for your time and support. We couldn’t make this happen without you!
If your child missed the fair this week, there is still time to shop at our online book fair through December 21st. These online purchases will also benefit our school. Additionally, any unused eWallet funds can be used at the Scholastic Store or to fund an eWallet account at our next book fair.
Enjoy your holiday break and happy reading!
Ms. Kelly

Get Involved
St. Vrain Nutrition Services is seeking parents/guardians to be a part of our new Parent Advisory Committee. Increasing school meal participation is consistent with this vision and pivotal in reducing hunger. 25% of SVVS’ 33,000 + students do not eat meals at school. In the US, 8% of children have a diagnosed food allergy. Within SVVS, 8% represents 2,600 students with dietary needs who may not be participating in the meal program.
We want to gather feedback from our parents/guardians to help improve our efforts to feed all students who are hungry.
Please complete the survey and consider joining St. Vrain Valley Nutrition Services' Parent Advisory Committee. We have created a space to give feedback on menu items and those menu items that support students' special dietary needs. First virtual meeting is January 25th, 2023.

The attendance policy at Niwot Elementary is one in which the first 10 absences are excused as long as there is communication with the school. After 10 excused absences in a school year, a doctor’s note is required in order to excuse future absences. A student will be considered "habitually" truant when he/she has 4 unexcused absences in a month or 10 total unexcused absences in a school year. When a student is habitually truant the SVVSD School Advocate can potentially be involved and an Attendance Plan could be put into place.

iPad Insurance
The LTP Student iPad Insurance window for the 2022-2023 school year is still open. Parents who wish to join the insurance pool for this year will need to make at least a partial payment. At this point in the year, students who wish to purchase insurance must bring their iPad to the office to have it inspected for damage.
This insurance fee was added for every eligible student K-12 on August 1st. Please note that any student with an unpaid balance for iPad insurance from the previous year will not be eligible to join the pool this year until they pay off the previous year’s balance.
2022-2023 LTP Student iPad Insurance: $25
The iPad insurance fee will be reduced or waived for students eligible for a free or reduced price lunch under the federal poverty income guidelines and homeless students as defined by McKinney-Vento.

A reminder that students are outside for morning line-up and recesses when the temperature is 17 degrees or above (includes wind chill). Please remember to send your child to school with appropriate winter gear. Also, students are only allowed in the snow at recess if they have snow boots and snow pants on. If they don't have these items they will still be able to play on the blacktop.

When is being sick too sick to come to school?
A child's ability to learn, perform and behave can depend on how they feel physically and illness plays a significant role in school absences. Often parents don’t understand when their child is too sick for school and when they can safely send them to school. If a student has a contagious illness that could cause illness in other children, they should stay home.
Students can come and remain at school if:
-
They have a runny nose and a slight cough, but no other symptoms
-
They have been fever free for 24 hours without taking any fever reducing medicine.
-
Haven’t thrown up or had any diarrhea for 24 hours.
Students should remain home if:
-
The child doesn’t feel well enough to take part in normal activities
-
The child needs more care than teachers and staff can give, and still care for the other children.
The Health Services department follows guidelines developed by the Colorado Children’s Hospital when making a determination if a student is too sick to be at school. We also work closely with our local public health departments in Weld and Boulder Counties for communicable disease control guidance.
