Praise
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

Welcome and Announcements
Introit - “Noel”
Love incarnate, love divine, star and angels gave the sign.
Bow to babe on bended knee, the Savior of humanity.
Unto us a Child is born; He shall reign forevermore.

Noel, Noel! Come and see what God has done!
Noel, Noel! The story of amazing love!
The light of the world given for us. Noel.

Son of God, and Son of man, there before the world began.
Born to suffer, born to save, born to raise us from the grave.
Christ, the everlasting Lord; He shall reign forevermore.

‡The Call to Worship - (From Psalm 92 and Psalm 95)
Pastor: It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
Congregation: to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night,

Pastor: to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre.
Congregation: For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy.

Pastor: O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Congregation: Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!

Pastor and Congregation: For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

‡The Hymn No. 218 – “Angels From the Realms of Glory”
Angels, from the realm of glory, wing your flight o’er all the earth;
Ye who sang creation’s story, now proclaim Messiah’s birth:
Come and worship, come and worship, worship Christ, the newborn King.

Shepherds in the field abiding, watching o’er the flocks by night,
God with man is now residing, yonder shines the infant Light:
Come and worship, come and worship, worship Christ, the newborn King.

Saints before the altar bending, watching long in hope and fear,
Suddenly the Lord, descending, in his temple shall appear:
Come and worship, come and worship, worship Christ, the newborn King.

All creation, join in praising God the Father, Spirit, Son;
Evermore your voices raising to th’eternal Three in One:
Come and worship, come and worship, worship Christ, the newborn King.

‡The Prayer of Invocation

The Old Testament Reading
Isaiah 35 --- Luke Uithoven
The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus; it shall blossom abundantly and rejoice with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord, the majesty of our God. Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. For waters break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; in the haunt of jackals, where they lie down, the grass shall become reeds and rushes. And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it. It shall belong to those who walk on the way; even if they are fools, they shall not go astray. No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it; they shall not be found there, but the redeemed shall walk there. 10 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

‡The Hymn No. 211 – “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”
God rest you merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay,
Remember Christ our savior was born on Christmas day,
To save us from all from Satan’s pow’r when we were gone astray:

(Chorus)
O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy.

From God our heav’nly Father, a blessed angel came:
And unto certain shepherds brought tidings of the same:
How that in Bethlehem was born the Son of God by name. (Chorus)

“Fear not then,” said the angel, “let nothing you affright;
This day is born a Savior of a pure virgin bright,
To free all those who trust in him from Satan’s pow’r and might.” (Chorus)

The shepherds at those tidings rejoiced much in mind,
And left their flocks afeeding, in tempest, storm, and wind:
And went to Bethlehem straightway, the Son of God to find. (Chorus)

The New Testament Reading and Congregational Prayer:
Luke 1:26-38 --- Lee Coleman
26 In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” 29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. 30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” 34 And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. 36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Offertory Prayer

‡The Hymn No. 204 – “Away in a Manger”
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, the little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head; The stars in the bright sky looked down where He lay, the little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, but little Lord Jesus no crying He makes; I love thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky, and stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay close by me forever, and love me, I pray; Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care, and fit us for heaven, to live with Thee there.

Reading of the Holy Scripture: Luke 11:37-44
37 While Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee asked him to dine with him, so he went in and reclined at table. 38 The Pharisee was astonished to see that he did not first wash before dinner. 39 And the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. 40 You fools! Did not he who made the outside make the inside also? 41 But give as alms those things that are within, and behold, everything is clean for you. 42 “But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 43 Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces. 44 Woe to you! For you are like unmarked graves, and people walk over them without knowing it.”

Declaration

‡The Hymn No. 225– “Once in Royal David’s City”
Once in royal David’s city stood a lowly cattle shed,
Where a mother laid her baby in a manger for his bed:
Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child.

He came down to earth from heaven who is God and Lord of all,
And his shelter was a stable, and his cradle was a stall:
With the poor, and the mean, and lowly, lived on earth our Savior holy.

And our eyes at last shall see him, through his own redeeming love;
For that child so dear and gentle is our Lord in heav’n above,
And he leads his children on to the place where he is gone. S

Not in that poor lowly stable, with the oxen standing by,
We shall see him, but in heaven, set at God’s right hand on high;
When like stars his children crowned all in white shall wait around.

Benediction
