Dear friends,
What an incredible - and challenging - year it has been for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders all across the nation. We continued to see ongoing discrimination and hate toward our communities, but we also saw plenty of reasons to hope for a future where we can finally feel we belong.
On behalf of the TAAF Board and Staff, thank you for your partnership, your support, and your commitment to the AAPI community. In our first full year of operation, we focused on building for the future through our core pillars of work—Anti-Hate and Belonging, Education, Narrative Change, and Unlocking Resources. In our end of year recap, Building for the Future: 2022 Year in Review, we walk through what that work has looked like this year.
With our Action Centers and National Network, we supported and brought together community organizations fighting anti-Asian hate across the country. We launched our 2nd annual STAATUS Index to raise awareness of Asian American stereotypes and perceptions. With the TEAACH Implementation Collaborative, we started to bring AAPI history to classrooms in Illinois. We made strides in representation through funding our “Sundance Institute | The Asian American Foundation Fellowship and Collab Scholarship” where storytellers and creatives bring their projects to life. And at our Partner and Leadership Summits, we brought together over 900 leaders across multiple sectors to strengthen relationships and share strategies to build a better future.
What we have done this year has been an all out team effort. We worked closely with AAPI organizations to continue to build critical infrastructure for the future. Because we need a solid foundation if we aim to take great leaps to achieve permanent belonging and prosperity for our communities.
