Dear Friends,

Words in the Wild’s 2022 successes and continued growth are very much thanks to you. From donations to likes, your support means everything to us as we grow from a small sprout to a nimble sapling.

This year we’ve grown in many ways:

Programs: We’re supporting schools on both sides of the Bay Bridge with intensive 1:1 tutoring and WordLab. This summer, camp brought us back to our lab school roots with a two-week session designed specifically for learning and teaching experimentation. We also hosted a fun Journaling in Nature workshop as well as a Family Literacy Workshop at the San Leandro Public Library.

Staff: With the increase in programs and donations we were able to hire and train three new Teaching Fellows, for a total of four fellows teaching and learning with us.

Office: After a couple of years of being virtual we were so excited to unpack our books this fall in a new space near Lake Merritt.

Partnerships: We’re so honored to receive a Community Literacy Action Grant from Oakland Literacy Coalition. Watch for special events from this funding in 2023!

Outreach: We received federal funds to offer workshops and coaching in the Building Blocks of Literacy, spreading the science of reading and joyful learning to dozens of teachers.

If you’re looking for ways you can deepen your impact in our community:

  1. Become a sustaining donor. For as little as $5/month you can provide learning materials for our students. At $20/month you contribute to sliding-scale pricing.

  2. Offer in-kind support. As we continue setting up our office there are a few items that would go a long way to support our joyful learning space. This is tax-deductible, too!

  3. Follow us on social media to stay updated on our programs, fellowship opportunities, and fun literacy resources:

  4. Share Words in the Wild with a friend by forwarding a newsletter or resharing a post on social media. This is huge for growing our network!

We’re so honored to partner with people like you who support our mission of bringing experiential literacy learning opportunities to all children.

With gratitude,
