Eastern NYS CSTAC (ETAC) Communities of Practice:

“How to Develop a Father-Friendly Program”

-and-

“Implementing the Community School RoadMap Tool”

Last month, ETAC initiated two Communities of Practice: “How to Develop a Father-Friendly Program,” and “Implementing the Community School Road Map Tool.” The former came into being in response to need and its evidence-based results: When fathers are proactively involved in the lives of their children, their children thrive both academically and emotionally. The latter answers the growing need for straightforward guidance in how to develop a community school.

Led by the nationally known National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI), the second session of “How to Develop a Father-Friendly Program” was held December 7. The final session is scheduled for January 18, 2023.  Strategies covered during the COP’s 3-sessions were: how to identify the degree of your school’s Father-Friendliness; developing more inclusive programming supports for fathers; and how schools can create and implement a Father-Friendly Action Plan.

December 14 marked the second session of ETAC’s 2nd Community of Practice: “Implementing the Community School RoadMap Tool.” Highlighting the 4 process stages in the creation of a Community School—Exploration, Installation, Initial Implementation, and Final Implementation—last month’s introductory session focused on the steps involved in Exploration. This month, the COP dug deeper into the Installation process and reviewing how to use the Hexagon Tool. The 3rd and 4th sessions are scheduled for March 9 and April 14, 2023.
