Cheers to a Happy New Year: Special Ways to 'Kanpai!' With Family & Friends

Holiday traditions run the gamut, but toasting is universal.  In Japan, saying "kanpai!" before a drink is mandatory, an expression that translates literally to 'dry cup', as in bottoms up!  We've assembled a line up of our most unique drinking vessels as we close out 2022.  All are crafted with artisanal care and thoughtful design, and are sure to make toasting in 2023 extra fun.
For almost a century, Sugahara Glassworks has made the radical decision to appoint their glassblowers as their lead designers.  As a result, their work is always inspired and innovative.  Take Sugahara's black matte glass (tempting for milk, am I right?) or the gorgeous two-toned duo glasses that looks like there's already a drink poured inside.
Kurikyu vessels are Japanese cedar strips, boiled and bent into circular forms. 6th generation master, Shunji Kurimori, crafts a full sensory experience for your drink: stunning wood grain, unbelievably lightweight feel and that serene cedar aroma with your beer or sake.  Enjoy a hot or cold drink with these vessels for a cozy Kurikyu winter.
World renowned ceramic designer Masahiro Mori understood beauty is more than meets the eye–it can also be felt through our hands.  In 1969, Mori designed Fancy Cups to try and carry over the visual thrill of seeing a beautiful cup to people who were visually impaired. So try this: close your eyes, hold a cup and feel the beauty we mostly take for granted.
Founded in 1908, Gato Mikio's 4th generation business is dedicated to preserving the beautiful art of woodwork and lacquerware. Each piece is turned from the highest quality cherry wood and lacquered by hand, like these ultra-light and refined sake cups now available only in 2 styles. Perfect for hot or cold beverages, each sip is to be savored.
