Dangerous conditions Sunday 18 to Tuesday 20 Dec
A high in the Bight and a low over the southern Tasman are directing southerly winds and a large southerly swell up the coast. Conditions are expected to gradually ease as the low weakens and moves away to the east over the coming days.

BOM is warning that on Sunday, dangerous conditions of 2 metre seas and 2.5 metre southerly swells will hit the Hunter coast.

On Monday, from the Byron coast down to the Illawarra there will be dangerous conditions of 2 to 3 metre seas and 2.5 to 3 metre southerly swells.

Dangerous conditions will continue on Tuesday for the Byron and Coffs coasts with 3 metre seas and 3 metre southerly swells.

Check local forecasts to get the latest before you go out on the BOM website at http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/map.shtml

Always tell someone where you are going and when you plan on coming back. If the rock platform is wet ask yourself 'why is it wet?' then watch the ocean for waves and swells for at least 20 minutes. Always fish with a friend, wear proper rockfishing footwear, light warm high-visibility clothing, and wear a life jacket in case you get washed in. Never turn your back on the ocean.

Also check out the links and safety advice on BOM's dedicated rock-fishing weather page.

Whenever you fish

  • choose a safe spot
  • don't fish alone
  • wear non-slip shoes
  • wear a life jacket
  • never turn your back on the sea.
