Ben Hur won the academy award for best picture. A gallon of gasoline set you back 31 cents. Diner’s Club introduced the first credit card, and the first TV game show, Truth or Consequences, made its debut. The year was 1960 and on October 1st of that year, Longhorn Toastmasters was chartered.
Longhorn, a community club, meets at the Fort Worth City Hall on Mondays at 11:45 a.m. The club has achieved great success during its 60+ year history. Achievements include a multitude of President’s Distinguished and Select Distinguished awards from TI. Such achievements are a signpost of the development of the many members who have led and been members of the club through the years.

Longhorn prides itself on creating a safe, professional, and welcoming environment at meetings (see photo.) In the aftermath of the pandemic, the club has adopted a hybrid meeting format which makes it convenient for members who are more comfortable meeting online as well as those who prefer to meet in person.
Their meetings are renowned for their variety and creativity. On December. 19, 2022, they held their annual Christmas party. Members were encouraged to wear holiday apparel (Christmas sweaters and Santa hats were abundant!).
Each attendee delivered a two-minute presentation at the meeting on their favorite Christmas/holiday memory.
Longhorn Toastmasters club is an example of what a truly strong club with dedicated leadership can achieve. The club prides itself in striving for excellence in a club that embraces diversity in ethnicity, educational background, age, and gender.
