The Ottawa Skateboard Association

The year 2022 in review and our first ever newsletter  🎉

2022 was the year to log off (if you could), move away from screens (at least a little), reconnect with old friends (with precaution), and see our world slowly morphing into a new social period.

We at Ottawa Skateboarding Association have been busy slowly restarting our social projects and we couldn't be happier to share them with the community in our first-ever newsletter!

Here's a quick look at the highlights of 2022.

JANUARY—APRIL

Free indoor skateboarding at Landsdowne Aberdeen Pavilion

Starting in January, the city of Ottawa pilot project for indoor skateboarding was a massive success, bringing over many skaters for free sessions every Tuesday in a safe and dry environment during the chilly winter months.

Masks and COVID screening were mandatory.

JUNE

Charlie Bowins park cleanup and board drive

The skate community put some rubber gloves on and came together to clean, organize and plant new flowers around Charlie Park. We also had a donation area for boards and any skate gear that would be later used for our For Pivots Sake program. Did we also mention free coffee, donuts and the best high-fives?

OCTOBER

New Akwesasne skatepark in Cornwall Island (Kawehno:ke)

Just 1h outside of Ottawa we can find a new skatepark built by Papillon Skateparks. It's a story of how people came together and made it happen with the effort of the community and numerous corporate and private donations.

It's located on A'nowara'ko:wa Arena grounds (36 Arena Road) on Kawehno:ke, or Cornwall Island. Check their Instagram for more information.

An amazing destination for your next spring skate day trip!

NOVEMBER

We joined many members of our community and city to sell local merchandise at the beloved annual Christmas market to raise funds for our Girls+ programs.
