The end of the year is finally here, and 2022 has certainly flown by. We hope that you, your loved ones, and your entire family are able to take time together over the coming weeks to pause and reflect on what has occurred and what is still to come. The hope of a new year reminds us all that we can always start again.

We spoke with you a couple of weeks ago about a remarkable grantee recipient, Alex. Alex is a remarkable man—a teacher, a husband, and a Stage 3 Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma survivor. Thanks to your support, we were able to provide Alex with the funding that he needed to make it through challenging treatment and end 2022 on a high note. Hear from him in his own words:
“One day a nurse shared with me a brochure for 9114HNC and suggested I apply. I did and in a matter of days was contacted by Cookie Kerxton. She shared with me that I had been selected and should expect a check over the coming days. I sighed in relief and disbelief. The mountain of medical bills were coming in every day and seemed insurmountable.  This was the hope I needed and it helped me believe that someone out there cared as much about me winning this fight with cancer as I did.

You don’t know me, but that's what your support did for me.

I am happy to share with you that my body is recovering well and the doctors have noted that my tumor is entirely gone.  My wife and I have returned to thinking about our future lives and making plans.

I am not the same man who walked into that doctor’s office a year ago. I have discovered a greater sense of purpose that I didn't know existed inside of me. Every morning, as I make plans for the day, I am grateful to you. For the contribution you made so that I can see another day, hug my wife on my way to work, and see my students graduate.”
Please make a contribution today to 9114HNC in the amount of $500 so patients with head and neck cancer know you care about them and that they are not alone.
We want to close this newsletter out by thanking you for your support throughout this year. We know that the past few years have been challenging for everyone for many different reasons, and we hope that we have remained a constant source of support for you and your family in the same way that we strive to be a source of refuge for head and neck cancer patients and survivors. As we approach the end of the year, we also wanted to remind you that we rely on your support to help patients get the treatment that they need. If you’ve enjoyed our newsletters and programming this year, please consider making a donation. Thank you and Happy New Year!
