Dear members and organic supporters,

It's been another busy year and I’m grateful to the many engaged individuals for making so much happen. I look forward to seeing the results of your efforts in 2023!

I’m also looking forward to connecting with many of you in the New Year at various in-person events, including the BC Organic Conference for some much-needed learning, networking and reconnecting with friends.

Holiday Hours

The Organic BC office will be closed starting Wednesday, Dec. 21st and will reopen for regular business hours on Tuesday, Jan. 3rd.

Note: All orders placed through our online store over the holidays will be processed when we're back in the office the week of Jan. 3rd.

2023 BC Organic Conference

We’re excited to announce the return of our in-person BC Organic Conference in the fall of 2023! It’s our 30th anniversary and we're planning our biggest and best event yet.

We hope you can join us from Tuesday, Nov. 7th – Thursday, Nov. 9th at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre to reconnect, exchange ideas and learn from experts. On-site accommodation will be available.

Organic Transition Fund

Applications are now open for the Canada Organic Trade Association's Organic Transition Fund! This program reimburses producers for a portion of their paid organic certification costs (up to $1000 maximum).

Who it's for: farmers in their first, second or third year of pre-certification or farmers already certified organic and are increasing their organic acreage. Learn more.

Reconciliation Training for BC Farmers

Are you a farmer located in BC wondering how to honour the Indigenous roots of the land you steward? Introductory workshops from KinSHIFT.ca, an Indigenous-led organization, are again available, with sessions starting in January and March. And, Young Agrarians has received funding to provide discounts for BC farmers. Learn more.

Hatch Your Farm + Food Business Workshop

Join the BC Association of Farmers' Markets for a one-day, in-person workshop on how to build a strong foundation and successfully establish your product at the farmers' market. The workshop runs 9 - 5 on January 17, 2023 at the PNE Grounds in Vancouver.

NFU Calls for Full and Permanent Status for All Migrants

The National Farmers Union is calling on the Canadian government to respect the human rights of migrant farm workers, regardless of their legal status, in accordance with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas. They invite you to send a message to the Federal Cabinet members letting them know that you believe in equality, rights, dignity, and justice for all. Learn more and take action.

Federal Government Launches Sustainable Agriculture Strategy

The federal government has launched a Sustainable Agriculture Strategy in collaboration with a diversity of partners, including Canadian Organic Growers, Farmers For Climate Solutions, National Farmers Union and so many more.

The overarching and integrated strategy will focus on five priority issues: soil health, climate adaptation and resilience, water, climate change mitigation, and biodiversity.

As part of the consultation process, a discussion document is now available for comment. Consultations run until March 31, 2023. Learn more and take part here.
