December is one of our staff’s busiest and most joyful months in Tulcea County. Throughout the month of December, our staff works extremely hard and well beyond normal hours to sort, pack, and distribute gifts to children living in orphanages and foster care within Tulcea County. This annual tradition brings joy and hope to these children and helps them know that they have not been forgotten.

There is another time-honored tradition during the Christmas season that the pandemic prevented in 2020 and 2021 – the Christmas pageant! NOROC's older youth living in the Speranta (Spur-ahn-zah) Center and the Apartments present a Christmas play where they sing carols for children in foster care and residents of two local homes for the elderly. This flip of the script is a powerful one! These youth who are so used to receiving, get to experience the incredible joy of giving to others. They learn that by just being themselves - energetic, joyful, and creative - they can help lift the spirits of those that need it.

We are also grateful for the opportunity to serve Ukrainian refugees who have fled to Romania to escape violence and persecution. Our organization has played a vital role in providing emergency care, food, and shelter for refugees and supporting them as they make decisions about their next steps. Your donations have helped us to provide housing, food, clothing, medical care, and other necessities to refugees in several locations within Tulcea County, as well as providing food and basic necessities for refugees in camps near the border.
