THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD

Dear Friends,

This Sunday is the celebration of the Baptism of Jesus.  We will hear about Jesus' own baptism and we'll have an opportunity to renew our own baptismal vows.  Throughout, we will be reminded that we too are beloved children of God.

On a more personal note, I have some news to share with the parish.  I have been working for some time with the bariatric clinic at Providence Health.  I've opted to pursue weight loss surgery through a procedure called gastric bypass.  I was cleared by the clinic over Christmas to proceed to surgery and I was offered the surgical date of February 14 this week.  I have been in touch with Bishop Kevin's office throughout this process and will share more when we have more information from him about parish coverage while I'm on leave.  The recovery period is 4-6 weeks off work.

Take care,

Megan

Condo Updates

A neighbourhood group has incorporated and consolidated their efforts to oppose the development.  Their name is the Bayview Broadway Good Planning Inc. and they registered as the only party, along with the City, eligible to formally oppose the project. To support this work, they need to raise funds to cover the costs of legal support and consultants.  They have raised $120,000 so far; the goal is $250,000 to fully fund the project.  Members of the parish who might wish to donate can do so by clicking HERE for instructions and options.  Please read a letter from the group by clicking HERE

God of peace and justice,
we pray for the people of Ukraine today.
We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow,
that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.
We pray for those with power over war or peace,
for wisdom, discernment, and compassion to guide their decisions.
Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear,
that you would hold and protect them.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Amen.

From Archbishops Justin Welby and Stephen Cottrell

Weekly Bulletin Announcements

Prayer Requests:  It is helpful for the prayer leaders to have names and requests in advance - please direct them to the church office early in the week if possible. Last minute requests may be added on Sundays to the list at the back of the worship space.

Church offerings:  Thanks to all who are keeping up with their regular offerings.  Please be advised that regular PAR donations are encouraged because they reduce accounting work for volunteers and provide a predictable stream of income. You can also donate online from our website, by clicking HERE

Update from the Rev'd Louise Dightam: It has been announced that our former student, the Rev'd Louise Dightam, will be ordained a priest on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at 4:00pm in the parish of Prince of Peace, Wasaga Beach.  Given the distance and uncertain winter weather, Louise has arranged for the service to be livestreamed by Zoom.  You can log into the session using this URL:

Spoken Eucharist Service:  The next 8:30 a.m. services are scheduled for:
Sunday, January 15, 2023
Sunday, February 5, 2023

Thank-you!
Thanks so much to Chris, Matthew, Andrew, and Abby, who volunteered to serve as kings and carry that star during our Epiphany drama.  You helped make the service playful and fun.

Thanks to Tim and Bente, who came in this week and took down all the Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany decorations and stored it away for another year.  Thanks for all your help making the worship space ready for the new year.
