We are so grateful for your support.

Thank you for your support during the fall and winter months—and all year, if you've donated before. Getting bombarded with emails begging you to support nonprofit journalism is a lot, but it's a necessary task to ensure we can continue to do the work we set out to do.

This NewsMatch season, we raised close to $10,000, which will be doubled! (Final amount TBD) As many of you know, NewsMatch has kept Southerly running as we've grown, and this year is no different. This money, though small in scale compared to some other outlets, is impactful.

Your gifts do a lot for Southerly, and they go towards these types of things:

  • Ensuring our fellowship program can continue to train Southerners interested in storytelling about environmental justice issues
  • Covering costs of printing offline materials to reach rural populations, including flyers and brochures
  • Supporting the Lake Charles Documenters program and Southwest Louisiana Journal, where residents are paid to take public meeting notes and track hurricane recovery funding
  • Paying our staff and contributors fairly and offering economic opportunities in media
  • Paying miscellaneous but critical things including insurance, website maintenance, software, etc.
We wouldn't be here, in our fifth year, without you—and we mean that in the most literal sense. It'd be impossible without the support of individuals. So thank you, thank you, thank you.

With immense thanks,
Southerly staff
