Hello!

Yesterday I attended the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration titled “Continuing the March: Pursuing the Dream.” It was a delight to see the gathered community leaders; from elected officials and those who serve, to Ball State University employees and community group representatives, to students and clergy. There was a sense of the presence of what Dr. King called “The Beloved Community.” And, in the midst of the love of those gathered, there was a call to recognition that Dr. King’s dream has yet to be fulfilled.

In theological language, this paradox of the Beloved Community being present in time and still needing to unfold is often called the “Now and Not Yet” of the Reign of God here on earth. Yes, loving community is present AND there is still a need for more love. This is the tension that we as followers of Christ live in. We celebrate the love we share and enjoy AND must attend to the call of God to share love with a world that continues to hurt and suffer in so many ways. May it be so…

19th Annual Walk a Mile in My Shoes

Saturday, February 11, at the Muncie Fieldhouse
8am check-in, 9am ceremony

"...and if you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday." (Isaiah 58:10)

Every day, hurting neighbors take to the street... some searching for food, warm clothing, or safe shelter; others simply seeking an escape.

Each year, we join together to brave the cold and bring hope to the hungry, the homeless, and those broken by addictions. Your generous support can bring a moment of comfort to a stranger in desperate need.

Raising HOPE with every step!

All proceeds support the Muncie Mission. The purpose of the walk is to take a step into the struggles facing the homeless. Sign-up to walk for Team Hazelwood or to support a walker with a contribution begins this Sunday, January 22. If you are making a donation to support Hazelwood walkers, please write a separate check from your regular offering and note "Walk a Mile" in the memo line.
Our sympathies and prayers go out to the family of Donna Lewis, who passed away on Saturday, January 7. Donna was once a regular attender at Hazelwood, though it has been some time since she was able to join us for worship.

“The Disciples of Christ (or Christian) denomination resulted from the merger of a number of restorationist groups in 1832. Based on the ideas of a former Scottish Presbyterian, Alexander Campbell, and the preaching of Walter Scott and Barton Stone, the Disciples wanted to restore 1st-century Christianity. They created a direct, practical faith with a simple and informal worship, including only those activities positively mandated by the Bible, with a rationalism at odds with the popular revivalistic style of 19th-century America.”
