Start Strong

With classes fast approaching we wanted to reach out to Mizzou colleagues with announcements about our our Involvement Week event, newest outcomes data, featured career readiness resource and more. Our goal is for students to start the semester off strong. Go get 'em Tigers!
Students seeking campus employment are encouraged to stop by the MU Career Center, lower level of the Student Success Center, on Thursday, January 19 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. There will be cocoa and sweet treats to enjoy while networking with campus employers who are hiring for the spring semester.

Casual dress is appropriate for this event and bringing copies of a resume and class schedule are appreciated. The first 75 students to meet with campus employers will receive a gift!
If you want to help students build their confidence and sharpen their interview skills, please refer them to the online interview platform, Big Interview. Students can access comprehensive training tips and videos and  review a database of thousands of questions for various industries and experience levels. Best of all, students can record themselves answering questions, conduct a self-evaluation, and share their interview answers for feedback.
You have an opportunity to help students get connected to this valuable resource in a few different ways:
  • ADVERTISE AND REFER. List Big Interview as resource on a syllabus or Canvas page and inform individual students and advisees who are actively interviewing for jobs, internships or competitive programs.
  • ASSIGN. Create a class assignment in Big Interview where you or a TA can review and evaluate student responses.
  • CUSTOMIZE. Create or request a custom set of questions that students can record and share with others (career services, alumni) for feedback.
Please email Laura Peiter for administrative access and instructions on how to get started. You can find more information on our website.
The MU Outcomes Survey provides insight into the career plans of Mizzou graduates and tells a story of student success. The campus will soon publish results from the Class of 2022 and a reecord-breaking 95.2% of Mizzou graduates have successful outcomes 6 months spring graduation.
We are in the process of updating the Career Outcomes website with new data and visualizations. We'll announce when the new site is ready!

The MU Career Center's career counseling services will once again be available in the spring!  Our career counselors provide in-depth, 1-on-1 support for a variety of career, academic, and personal-related concerns.  Students and alumni up to one year out can meet with a career counselor to discuss major and career exploration, graduate education, job search, transitions to and from college, and more. Career counseling is FREE and is a great referral for students and recent alums who would benefit from ongoing support.

Appointments will be available starting the week of January 23rd. Students can sign up through MU Connect for a 30-minute initial consultation session with one of our counselors; recent alums should email careercounseling@missouri.edu to request an appointment.

(Please note that due to licensure requirements, career counselors are only eligible to provide counseling services to those living in Missouri; if a Mizzou student resides outside the state, they are welcome to visit with a Career Specialist.)

Questions? Please email careercounseling@missouri.edu or Carrie Collier.

Good luck with Spring Semester!
