The Radical MLK: The Risks That Love Require
Led By Rev. Dr. Michelle Walsh

Our mission at First Parish Church in Taunton is to
Inspire, Connect, and Serve

This Sunday we honor the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday by re-considering the radical challenge that authentic love poses for each of us and the risk taking this might entail to find our expanded connected center. Rev. Michelle will share a personal story from her prior many years of urban youth ministry work as an example.
This Sunday in Youth Faith Formation

This week both our Chalice Children and Youth will explore our theme of Finding Our Center by focusing on putting racial justice at the center of our faith, our lives, and our world. In relation to this and in honor of MLK Day, each group will also explore the courage it takes to love and the meaning of equality and equity.

Childcare Staff:  Emily Keegan and Holly Griffith

Social Justice Monthly Film Discussion (rescheduled)
Tomorrow, Friday, January 13 at 6 pm in the Minister's Office

Come join in for a viewing of Woody Allen's film, "Crimes and Misdemeanors," a 1989 existential comedy-drama, and a chance to talk about personal and social ethics.  What kinds of things do you consider to be crimes and what are merely personal misdemeanors? How can we expand this conversation to a larger social justice level too? Are there essential truths of right and wrong or not; can people get away with engaging in harm and still live a happy life or are there real consequences no matter what; and what gives life meaning ultimately? We'll have snacks as usual and childcare will be available as needed. Contact Rev. Michelle with questions, michelle@revmichellewalsh.com
Our Whole Lives: Taking Flight for 8-10 Graders
Taking Flight Parent Orientation Sunday, 1/22, 11:30 AM
Classes Sundays 2/1 - 6/4 10 AM

We are proud to be offering Taking Flight an Our Whole Lives (OWL), a comprehensive sexuality education course for 8-10 graders beginning in this February.

Taking Flight is an 18-week course (beginning Feb 1)full of interactive workshops and lesson plans designed to engage participants and provide honest and accurate information. Taking Flight helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior while also: dismantling stereotypes and assumptions, building self-acceptance and self-esteem, fostering healthy relationships, and improving decision-making.  Taking Flight provides accurate, developmentally appropriate information about a range of topics, including relationships, gender identity, sexual orientation, sexual health, and cultural influences on sexuality.

The Taking Flight Parent Orientation (this is open to anyone who would like to learn more about the program but is mandatory for parents/caregivers of youth participating) will take place on Jan. 22nd at 11:30 am following service.

Classes will run Sundays from 10:15 -11:45 am (during church) from Feb 1 - June 4. For more information, please contact April Rosario - Director of Religious Education, at dre@firstparishtaunton.org

** Taking Flight is also open to community youth, so please feel free to share.

Theology on Tap

Friday, Jan. 27, 6-8 PM

All are welcome to join us for our Adult Faith Formation Theology on Tap group Friday, 1/27, from 6-8 PM. Theology on Tap is a casual discussion group that gives adults a chance to dive into a different UU theological question and have a loosely guided discussion over their favorite pint, a glass of wine, water, juice, or whatever other delicious concoction they choose to bring. Please reach out to April Rosario if you have any questions or if you will be needing childcare.

**Drinks are BYOB, and we ask that folks bring an appetizer or snack to share.
