2023 Athens MLK Day Parade

We are gearing up to produce the 7th annual Athens MLK Day Parade. Yes, it has been 7 years and we are in motion for this one to be the best one ever! 

We have planned a weekend of activities for the 7th annual Athens-Clarke MLK Day Parade & Music Festival!

FRIDAY, JANUARY 13th: Atlanta Legend Kilo Ali @ 40 Watt

SUNDAY, JANUARY 15th: Grammy Award-winning blues singer the great Bobby Rush @ Hendershot's with Aubrey Entertainment

MONDAY, JANUARY 16th: Athens-Clarke MLK Day Parade & Festival

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade Itinerary 

The Athens MLK Jr. Day Parade and Music Festival honors the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and promote culture, inclusion, and diversity in Downtown Athens. This event includes live performances, vendors, a kids' fun zone, and much more.

Festivities begin at 1 p.m. on the corner of Hull and Washington Street. Local schools, organizations, nonprofits, churches, dance teams, mobile vehicles, and various organizations are welcome to participate in the parade.

VENDORS, PLEASE READ

  • 11 AM CHECK-IN on the corner of Washington/Hull in front of Morton Theatre. More details will be provided at check-in.
  • All vendors must bring a 6x6 table/tent if needed. 10x10 space will be provided.
  • Food vendors are required to decompose.

PARADE PARTICIPANTS

  • CHECK-IN BEGINS1:00 pm parade, strictly enforced. Line up on Washington Street (between Hull/Lumpkin Street). 
  • 3 pm Parade begins (parade appx 45 minutes).

3 PM Parade Begins route/details:

  • The parade starts and ends on the corner of Hull and Washington Street. At the parade's end, mobile floats and vehicles will be directed to park on Washington Street. Parade walkers will be directed to the main stage for the final performance. The stage is located on Washington street near 40 Watt Club.
  • 4 pm Parade ends with Honoree Ceremony (Honoring our elders). Outdoor music. performances, and festivities continue until 6 pm.
  • 4:00-6 pm Outside stage w/Live Performances
  • 6 pm Closure outdoor festivities end
  • 6-8 pm Hip Hop Showcase at World Famous

Art for Justice Saturdays

Head to the Justice Center each Saturday from 3-5 pm for weekly art classes led by our amazing staff member, Cedric! Paint to soothing music and discuss local issues with AADM members. Paint supplies are provided and painters of all skill levels are welcome. Classes are free with donations highly encouraged.

AADM is proud to be a people-powered movement dedicated to racial and social justice. Sign up to join our awesome volunteers, board members, and staff on our on virtual Saturday morning meetings from 10:30am-12:00pm
During these meetings, we discuss local issues/news relating to the mission of AADM and strategize our next actions together.
