Happy New Year, Fringers!

It's a new feeling here as we've entered our first January without a Next Stage Festival. (Now coming October 2023 at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre!) We are embracing the change, with lots going on as you read below.  Not to mention, we will be opening applications for the 2024 Next Stage Festival in the mid-winter, so be sure to keep watching this space and our social media this winter.

24-Hour Play Contest 2023

On a lavender background, the Toronto Fringe is in the top left corner. On the left there is colourful illustration of a person typing on a laptop. On the right, black text reads, “24-Hour Playwriting Contest. Write from wherever you are. Starting January 28 at 9AM. Registration is open now.”

We're launching into the winter with a welcome back to the 24-Hour Playwriting Contest – with some updates! This year the contest takes place online at the end of this month.

The prize for the selected winner will be a $1000 bursary, and the opportunity to meet with a dramturg or director to consult with about their work, thanks to the generous support of the Tony and Pat Freedom Fund for the Arts.

The writing period starts at 9:00am on Saturday, January 28th and finishes at 5:00pm on Sunday, January 29th, 2023. In order to encourage rest and breaks, we are giving 8 extra hours for the contest this year.

Registration closes at 12:00pm noon on Thursday January 26th, 2023. Click here to learn more and register!

My First Fringe - March Break Program for Teens

My First Fringe is a FREE theatre production and creation workshop series for young theatre makers age 15-18. In this program, participants will take part in a series of workshops led by established artists, geared towards equipping participants with the skills needed to successfully create and produce a Fringe show.   This program will take place in person in downtown Toronto and is open to residents of Ontario. Applications will open on our website this Friday in the "Get Involved" section of our website. My First Fringe 2023 is made possible thanks to the SM Foundation.
