How did San Antonio River Aid come about?
River Aid San Antonio came about when our founder members were tired of talking about San Antonio's environmental problems without action. In March 2021 we decided to stop the talk and start to plan our first clean-up at Confluence Park on the San Antonio River. The event was a huge success with tremendous interest in the "next cleanup." Almost two years plus and 66 cleanups later, RASA is posed for an even more impactful 2023!
What is your personal favorite piece of trash recovered to date?
That's like asking a Spurs fan who their favorite Laker was during the dynasty era. I would say my favorite piece of trash recovered has got to be all the items we have upcycled. In particular, we use an old Christmas Tree Carrying bag to carry our trash grabbers. A shorter answer: My favorite pieces are the ones that are no longer "trash."
So when is the next cleanup and how do folks get involved?
Our next clean-up will be at Jack White Park on Jan 21st from 10am-1pm. Folks just need to show up! We can get you signed up on location at any of our events and straight to work. We ask our volunteers to bring a reusable water bottle and wear closed-toed shoes.
