Hi friends,
I’d say Happy New Year, but according to Curb Your Enthusiasm law, I've missed the cutoff. Nonetheless, welcome to the first Brightside of 2023! We’ve got Sam back in the editor seat this year, and I’m so excited to have her back as my partner in crime/momager. We did some content planning this week and it’s going to be really fun to bring it all to life.
I've been quiet here the past few months, but it felt good to take a break and enjoy the holidays. I spent the last few weeks of 2022 manically asking everyone I came in contact with how they’d describe their year in 3 words. I got some really beautiful answers - a big theme was transformation, which I think makes sense as we all adjusted to a post-pandemic livelihood.
For me, a word that rings true is calibration. I spent the year settling into my new apartment and neighborhood, living alone for the first time and really learning how to be ok on my own (hard!). We returned to the office at Google, which meant calibrating to a new work routine and being in person again. And I had a major year of creative calibration - trying out new things with The Brightside (like the dinner party Holly & I hosted for Pinterest x Spoak), asking myself what it meant to be On The Brightside in this season of life, and letting myself take some pressure off creating all the time. I let myself breathe, sit still, slow down ... which was good for me.
If 2022 was all about calibrating to this chapter of life - what I am welcoming into 2023 is momentum. I’m really proud of the life I’m building for myself - and I feel like these last few years of my 20s are all about solidifying my foundation, establishing some more consistency (in my creative cadence, habits, etc.) - and in doing so, generate some momentum that will carry me forward. I'm excited to be surprised by where this year and beyond take me - I've got a good feeling about it.
