January 2023
Time-Honored Traditions Issue

How’s It Going?

Now that we’re halfway through January, we want to take a moment to check in on our Salon community. How is 2023 shaping up? How are things mentally, physically, and emotionally?

If you’re struggling with the pressure to hit the ground running in the new year, we understand. We’ve been there. And instead of falling back into habitual resolutions we “should” be striving for, we’re using this mid-month moment as an opportunity to refresh our resolve to embrace new ways of thinking.

Last night’s Ayurvedic dosha session with Sneha Wellness was an eye-opener. We discovered our unique metabolic type and learned how our “doshas” are connected to every aspect of our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Next Thursday, we’re continuing our holistic wellness journey with a session focused on stress-relieving massage. (Count on soothing music and a mini-massage.)

We hope you’ll join us as we continue to explore time-honored well-being practices for a more centered, happy, and healthy year ahead. Sign up for one of our WellComing sessions — you can jump in to our Women Be Well series at any time!

Until next week,
—Meredith

Meet A Few Of Our Women Be Well Practitioners!

As we continue our Women Be Well curator series with Sneha, we’ll be introducing some of the wonderful women leading the charge throughout the next three months.

Introducing Diane, Rachel, Lalita, and Caitlin. Keep scrolling to learn about their areas of expertise, plus insights, recommendations, and their favorite local spots for mindfulness and healing.

Stay tuned for more intros in the coming weeks!

Lalita Payne
Lalita is a Vinyasa yoga teacher, lover of breathwork and magic shows, social worker, and mom.  Her name in Sanskrit and means “playful.”

Tell us about your class and how it supports wellness.
I will be offering a relaxing yoga flow to help calm the mind, body, and spirit.  We will explore the body and how it provides insights for wholeness.

What’s one of your favorite go-to spots for self-care in the Burgh?
Sneha Yoga and Wellness Collective is my favorite go-to spot!

Rachel Dobos
Rachel is an Ayurvedic health counselor and doula who loves to help women fall in love with their bodies.

Tell us about your class and how it supports wellness.

I will be introducing the art of Ayurveda. I LOVE practicing Ayurveda! I've truly found it to be the most holistic approach to wellness. While a traditional doctor may only examine the physical, a therapist may only address the emotional, or a priestess may only approach the spiritual, Ayurveda blends these aspects seamlessly.

What's your intention for the New Year?

My intention for the New Year is to cultivate stability and trust that I'm going where I need to go.

Diane Geisler
Diane is a certified aromatherapist and crystal healer, Reiki practitioner, and licensed massage therapist who left the corporate realm to follow her passions.

Tell us about your class and how it supports wellness.
I’ll be sharing information about the numerous health benefits of various massage therapy techniques, as well as the uses and benefits of essential oils, and how energy work such as Reiki can calm and relax the body, mind, and spirit.

What resource do you recommend for those getting started on their wellness journey?
I love the Calm app. It provides daily 10-minute meditations as well as music and stories to help induce a restful night’s sleep.

Caitlin is a certified health coach and licensed massage therapist, foodie, mom to two boys, and lover of music and dance.

Tell us about your class and how it supports wellness.

My services as a health coach and massage therapist support wellness from a variety of angles.  Clients learn to listen to what they need to better care for their health, whether we’re addressing food, their environment, movement, sleep, or stress. Massage therapy de-escalates the mind and body from the fast pace of the day. Join us next Thursday!

What resource do you recommend for those getting started on their wellness journey?

I love everything that Dr. Aviva Romm has to say about women's health — you can't go wrong with her podcasts or articles. I'm also a fan of the website www.self-compassion.org.

The Salon is a place to dabble in the unknown. We provide an admittedly eclectic (but community-led!) range of programming. One week, it might be an academic discussing the gender pay gap. Next, it might be wine tasting and hipster puzzles. Indulge in new things with us! And if it makes you a bit nervous, that might be a good thing. Find out for yourself what we’re all about.
