As we continue our Fresh Start Sermon series, we are reminded that God continues to change us in ways that only God can. God does this in big ways, such as a new job. God also changes us in small ways and one of two things can happen. We can ignore or miss them, or these changes can cause us to feel like our lives are filled with confusion and chaos.
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." ~ John 14:27
These words remind us that even though there is change and chaos in our lives, God's peace is with us always.
Be a Blessing,
Pastor Scott

Sermon Series
"Fresh Start"
January 22
"Ten Lepers. How Many Miracles?"
Luke 17:11-19
Jesus has the power to change lives through God’s grace. Our own seemingly intractable flaws can be overcome, and we can change the world in response to the change offered to us. A fresh start begins with living in awe and gratitude of God’s gifts.
January 29
"Salvation in the House"
Luke 19:1-10
A bold act of inclusion changed the life of Zacchaeus the tax collector as well as the whole community. How many lives can we transform if we really devote ourselves to inclusion? A fresh start requires being open to Jesus’ invitation to us as well as to those who are not valued in our community – the outcasts or the marginalized.

On the second Sunday of each month, we have Fellowship Time immediately after the 9 AM Worship Service. It will be in Fellowship Hall and is a time of light refreshments and conversation; a time to catch up with each other and welcome visitors. The next Fellowship Time will be on Sunday, February 12. Please join us!
NOTE:
Fellowship Time is volunteer driven. There is a sign-up sheet outside of Fellowship Hall. Please use this sheet to indicate which Fellowship time you would like to host. Instructions are found on the sign-up sheet. The next month that needs a volunteer host is April.

We are thankful for your faithful support. Your generous giving has been vital in maintaining our ability to cover expenses and continue our church ministries. You may continue giving in-person at the indoor worship service, by sending your offering check directly to the church, or by using the church online giving feature found in the footer of the church website. It is easy, secure, and appreciated. --- Thank You

The DeBows Food Pantry is open on the 2nd & 4th Monday each month, 6-8pm. DeBows uses an "Appointment Only" system to distribute the food. To make an appointment, call 848-373-8844. The next Food Pantry distribution is on January 23.
Please note: participants need to call for an appointment by 5:00pm on the Saturday prior to the scheduled food pantry day. This gives the Food Pantry volunteers time to prepare the food for distribution. "Thank You" for your cooperation.
Please contact Pastor Scott if you need further information or would like to volunteer to help with the Food Pantry ministry.

DeBows UMC is blessed with talented people who love to praise God. We pray for each other and give back to the Lord the blessings we’ve received. We welcome newcomers to join our music ministry and share and grow their talent for God’s glory. Please contact Grayce by email at music@debowsumc.org for any questions or to discuss opportunities to participate in our music ministry.
Chime Choir — Rehearses Sunday morning 8:30 to 8:45 AM and rings the introit to worship on Sunday morning (except on Revival Sunday). New members are always welcome. Ability to sight read music and prior experience not necessary. Ability to be present and have fun very important!
Praise Band — Rehearses Tuesday nights at 7:00 PM and plays a five-song set once a month for Revival Sunday, usually the last Sunday of the month. Check email and church calendar for exceptions. All instruments welcome.
* More information about the DeBows music ministry can be viewed HERE. Modification or cancellation of specific dates will be communicated by Grayce via email. Please check email for any cancellations before coming out.

One of the hallmarks of DeBows UMC is our level of mission activity. Throughout the year our church engages in many different forms of outreach to share God’s love with our neighbors and community.
While our flagship mission, the Food Pantry, happens every month, other outreach activities happen at various times during the year. In the next newsletter we will publish a proposed list of mission activities and when they will take place.
During January & February we will focus on support of our Food Pantry ministry. We will do this in two ways:
- In lieu of the “Souper Bowl” event we used to do before COVID, we will be distributing Ball jars that you can take home and fill with spare change. We ask that the jars be returned on the first Sunday in March. Jars will be available starting this Sunday, January 22.
- Many of the food items distributed are obtained through our affiliation with the Fulfill Foods Bank program. Some other items we could still use from other sources include peanut butter, pasta, beans, and brownie & cake mixes. If you would like to donate any of these items, please bring them to the church and place them on the table outside of Fellowship Hall. Please check the expiration dates on anything you donate, as we cannot distribute expired food items.
As always, we appreciate your support of church ministries. THANK YOU
