Get Help Promoting Your Utility’s Value

Need help getting your public power promotional project over the finish line?

ElectriCities’ Customized City Project program may be just the ticket.

The program helps you accomplish projects that advance public power and public power providers through education, branding, and/or promotion. It’s designed for Power Agency members, and it taps the expertise of our Corporate Communications team, including marketing and communication strategists, graphic designers, and writers.

Each year, we select up to six projects (that’s three projects from each Power Agency) that best promote the value of public power and can be completed that year.

Recent Customized City Projects include:
  • A billboard promoting a city’s electricity reliability.
  • A welcome kit for new utility customers.
  • A promotional campaign for a new system to report outages via text.
If you have a great idea for a project that builds public awareness, appreciation, and support for your public power utility or public power in your community, but you need more expertise to make it a reality, apply today.

Learn more about program requirements and apply on the ElectriCities website before the deadline on Jan. 13.

Celebrating Holiday Mutual Aid

As many of us were celebrating the holidays with family and friends, public power crews from three communities in our area were leaving theirs.

On Dec. 23 and Dec. 24, crews from Union, South Carolina, and Wilson, North Carolina, made their way to Danville, Virginia, to help their fellow public power lineworkers restore electricity knocked out by Winter Storm Elliott.

Mid-December, crews from High Point, North Carolina, traveled to Harrisonburg, Virginia. They arrived before a predicted ice storm, ready to help if needed. Harrisonburg didn’t receive the forecasted damage, so the High Point crews remained on standby until they got the all-clear to head home.

A big thank you to the dedicated crew members who stepped up to provide aid to their neighbors,” said Kenny Roberts, Mutual Aid Coordinator and Supervisor of Safety & Training at ElectriCities. “Whatever the weather or time of year, they’re as committed to helping power their neighboring communities as they are their own. That’s a big part of the value of public power.”

ElectriCities’ Freeman Appointed to NERC Committee

Congratulations to Marcus Freeman, ElectriCities’ Manager of Compliance and Risk Management, on being appointed to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Compliance and Certification Committee! Marcus will represent the Transmission-Dependent Utility sector.

NERC is a not-for-profit international regulatory authority whose mission is to assure the effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the electric grid.

Reporting directly to the NERC Board, the Compliance and Certification Committee (CCC) monitors the NERC Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Program, Organization Registration Program, Organization Certification Program, and Reliability Standards.

Marcus told us, “I’m excited to be appointed to the CCC, and I’m looking forward to working with the committee members to help ensure a safe, secure, and resilient power grid.”
