This Sunday at First Unitarian Church
January 8, 2022, Livestreamed  at 10:30 am (prelude begins at 10:25)
Kwanzaa Service
This a special invitation to anyone who would like to light one of the 7 Kinara candles during the service. Children, youth, or families with African ancestry may find this particularly meaningful and a chance to celebrate their heritage. However, anyone is welcome to light the candles.
Kwanzaa is for anyone, and that is one of the messages I will be speaking about this Sunday.

First UU Share the Plate Charity for January 2023 is Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh is a nonprofit working to provide affordable homeownership and home repairs to limited-income families in the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County since 1986.
Habitat Pittsburgh has assisted 110 families in becoming first-time homeowners. Many of these families would not be homeowners today were it not for Habitat Pittsburgh’s guidance, educational classes, approval of credit, and underwriting of their mortgage. Habitat homes are constructed by Habitat Pittsburgh’s full-time construction team and dedicated volunteers. In 2023 Habitat Pittsburgh will be building six homes in Larimer and one in Penn Hills.
First UU has provided “Habitat Work Parties” of congregants for many years, most recently under the coordinating leadership of Marty Lieb. And we are proud, once again, to provide Habitat the opportunity to receive our Share the Plate funding this month. Thank you for your generosity!

Donate now by clicking the Donate Now button below and choosing the Habitat for Humanity option. To donate by check, please indicate the proportion you wish to go to Habitat … for credit card donation, go to the “GIVE” section of First UU website, and select “Habitat for Humanity.” Cash from the Sunday collection is split 50/50 between first UU and Habitat.

Welcome Home Set up for Jan/Feb 2023

As promised, the First Church Refugee Team is extending an invitation to our whole church community to help in donating the needed items for our second refugee family Welcome Home set up. Once our family has been assigned a home (this should be in January), we will be sending out a Sign-Up Genius with a list of their needs, which our church team will collect over a 2 week period and then set up the home for a warm welcoming to Pittsburgh. Stay tuned for an announcement
