Tonight (1/5) the Menlo Park City Council will hold an emergency meeting in order to ratify the City Manager’s proclamation declaring a state of emergency within the City (declared last night). State law and the Municipal Code empower the City Manager, acting as the Director of Emergency Services, to proclaim the existence or threatened existence of a local emergency. City Manager Murphy believes that the cumulative effects of the past, current and upcoming storms warrant this action.
Proclaiming an emergency will activate emergency authorities, all of which we hope not to utilize, but which we must be prepared for. These include designating evacuation routes and closing dangerous streets and/or public places, requiring emergency service of city staff, and obtaining supplies and equipment necessary for the protection of life and property.
Please continue to exercise caution and stay safe.
Warmly,
