Happy New Year!

We hope that you had a happy and restful winter break, and we look forward to your arrival on campus. As the semester begins, we are resuming the WFU Should Know weekly e-newsletter and hope you will find the information below helpful.

Important health-related information for your return to campus

We look forward to having students return to campus for the spring semester. To help keep our community healthy, we encourage all students to do the following:

  • Wear a well-fitting mask when traveling on public transportation such as airplanes.
  • Take a COVID test within 72 hours before arriving on campus.
    • If you test positive (via a home test or by tests administered by healthcare providers), you should report the positive result to wfucovid@wfu.edu.
  • Stay home if you are actively ill and remain home until you are no longer contagious:
    • For flu, COVID, RSV, etc., remain away until your symptoms are improved and you have not had a fever (without using fever-reducing medications) for 24 hours. Read more.
    • For gastrointestinal illnesses such as noroviruses, you can be contagious for up to two days after your symptoms have resolved, so remain away until then.
  • Avoid large social gatherings for the first two weeks after you get back to campus to ensure there are no post-travel surges.
  • See the full message from the Campus Health Committee.

Residence Halls open on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 9 a.m.

Residence halls open for all students on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 9 a.m. Please note:

  • Move-in for students moving on to campus for the first time this academic year is between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. For these newly arriving students only: If you will be arriving after 4 p.m., you must submit a late arrival form.
  • Anyone approved for early arrival has received their move-in date.

First day of classes (undergraduate) is Jan. 9

The first day of classes for undergraduates is Monday, Jan. 9. Graduate and professional school students can consult the Registrar’s calendar page, or their individual school/program for details on their calendars.

Last day to add a first-part-of-term class (undergraduate) is Jan. 13

Undergraduate students who are still finalizing their spring course schedules should take note that the last day to add a first-part-of-term class is Friday, Jan. 13.

ICYMI (In Case You Missed It):

  • How winter weather alerts are issued - Wake Forest students will be informed of any weather-related campus closings and delays by numerous means, including email, text message, voicemail, and banners at the top of the main Wake Forest website (wfu.edu). The National Weather Service issues winter weather advisories, watches and warnings and offers tips on how to prepare for winter weather events. Weather forecasts are available on local TV stations WXII, WGHP, WFMY and Spectrum’s News 14 and The Weather Channel.
  • What to do if winter weather prevents you from getting back to campus on time - If emergency weather conditions prevent you from returning to campus for the first day of classes, you should contact your spring semester professors directly to let them know of your delay. Residential students can notify the Office of Residence Life and Housing of a delay via our late arrival form if they need to check-in and get keys to a new room they did not occupy in the fall semester. If a student is simply returning to the same room they occupied in the fall, there is no need to notify Residence Life and Housing of a travel delay.
  • Parking info: registering a vehicle for spring semester and early-arrival parking - See the Transportation and Parking Services website for information on how to register a vehicle for the spring semester (the process varies by resident student, commuter, etc.) and early-arrival January parking info.
  • Reminder: call for ConsentCon programs - Wake Forest will hold ConsentCon, a conference dedicated to exploring the meaning and operationalization of consent on college campuses, on Feb. 17, 2023. The University is requesting proposals for workshops, panel discussions and speakers. If you are interested in presenting on a topic and sharing your perspective, please complete the proposal form. The deadline for submission is Jan. 13, 2023.
