Art Class with Kate Rogers

Beginning Monday
Sign up with
Bobbiejo!

Join Kate Rogers at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Kenwood on Mondays, January 9, 16 and 23 from 10:30 to noon. Free with a $5.00 donation to cover materials

All are welcome to join us to make some art! This three-class series will allow us to explore our creative expression, using materials and medium chosen for you to focus on the process.  No skill is needed!  All that’s required is a willingness to explore, have fun, and let art happen!

Kate Rogers will be your facilitator for this program.  She is an Art Therapist and an artist.  She uses the printing press at the Sonoma Valley Community Center to begin her process of making collages.  She is also trying ceramics for the first time!  Kate has seen the process of art making create growth and positive change in her clients  and relies on it for her own self-care.  She lives in Sonoma with her husband and golden doodle.

To sign-up, contact Bobbiejo at parishadm9000@gmail.com or call 707-833-4228, ext. 1. For questions, contact Laurie Boone Hogen at Lauriehogen@gmail.com. St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church is located at 9000 Sonoma Highway in Kenwood.

A Message from the Planned Giving Ministry

GETTING YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER

A common New Year's tradition is to make resolutions as to how to live better in the coming year. It is typically a time to "get one's affairs in order" in preparation for tax season and generally to start the new year out with a sense of fiscal accomplishment.

Perhaps one of those tasks includes taking another look at one's will, trust, or estate plan. General fiscal record maintenance advice includes revisiting such documents when a "life event" occurs, such as a birth, marriage, or death, or every five years. This is done to update or make any changes deemed necessary as things change over the years, including bequests.

In your planning for your family, this is a time to revisit your bequests and hopefully a gift to your parish is part of your plan. It is in our bequests that we honor what is close to our hearts and what we value.

Wishing all of our parish family, a healthy and happy New Year.

The Rev. Bruce Bramlette Presents:
A Historical Exploration of the First Two Centuries after
Jesus and Before Christianity
The Adult Education Ministry of St Patrick's Church is happy to present The Rev. Bruce Bramlette once again!

Join religious studies scholar and interfaith facilitator, The Rev. Bruce Bramlett, in this fascinating 5-week course titled The Jesus Movement in the first two centuries before the Church.

This five week class will explore historically the setting, character, and circumstances of the development of the earliest Jesus movement from its origins in Judea to its growth amid the vast diversity and pluralism of the Roman Empire in the first two centuries. We will follow a new ten-year, study from the Westar Institute of this history, After Jesus Before Christianity, to guide our conversations. We will look closely at the nature of Roman society, religion, and political environment to enrich our understandings of those earliest Jesus communities. The course should greatly expand and challenge many of our long-held assumptions about this important era and provide insights into how the Jesus movement came to become the “Christian Church” in the third and fourth centuries. The course will be a “hybrid” model with in-person sessions and Zoom opportunities.

This course will be held on Tuesdays from 11:00 -1:00 of the following dates: January 24, 31, February 7, 14, 21 in Stevenson Hall at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 9000 Sonoma Highway in Kenwood, California. The class is free but a $5.00 donation helps off-set expenses. Please R.S.V.P. to Bobbiejo at parishadm9000@gmail.com or call 707- 833-4228, ext. 1. Rev. Bramlett’s biography is available upon request.

Redwood Empire Food Bank Pop-Up!
Reports from December 20th & January 3rd

On Tuesday, December 20th was so very special!  Volunteers were adorned with seasonal hats and/or attire, and, thanks to my granddaughter showing me how to pair my cell phone with my Sony speaker, we had seasonal music blaring!  (My cell was gasping for power after 2 hours of continuous use!)

Thanks to Denise P, Tim/Lauri D, Anna/Joel B, Kathleen B, Erin G, Beth B, Lynn K, Kerin M, Susan S, Carolyn W, driver Ron and rep Arturo.  As you can count, there were twice the usual volunteers - 6 were scheduled; 6 showed up to cheer, but were quickly assigned unforeseen duties . (My apologies to any whose name I may have not listed.)  Everyone on the premise had an important job!  62 families/228 individuals (the highest counts we've had in many months!) received food tonight!  Thanks be to God!

Thanks, also to Carolyn W and Rev Ed Howell.  After arriving to help, they realized they had possibly been exposed to covid, and promptly left.  We who think we are well THANK YOU!!! Thanks also to Rich/Betsy Randolph for popping in early to help.

In addition to the usual food distribution, 111 $10 gift cards and 60 paper bags filled with candy for children in each family were distributed! A HUGE thank you to the St Pat REFB volunteers and members of St Patrick's who made contributions of cash, check or gift cards. Everyone who contributed to the cards or candy has to sleep well tonight knowing they brought many smiles and seasonal blessings to those receiving them!

As always, it is a wonder to watch our volunteers in action!  Somehow things just get worked out and the distribution flows!  It varies every distribution night!  Those who are there work out who does what to guarantee that what is there is distributed!  I just love seeing miracles!

Love is the reason for the season, be it Christmas, Hanukah, Karansa (sp?) or etc.  Our challenge is to keep that same love flowing year round!

"And to all, a good night" and a blessed 2023!

Food Bank Pop-Up Report From January 3, 2023

Thanks to Pam/Larry, Ned, Beth, Lynn/Chris, Natalie, Olivia, driver Ron and rep Arturo.  Welcome to new volunteer Chris K!  62 households/234 individuals received food tonight!

There were a lot of fresh veggies and fruit, including many boxes of very ripe mango.  Larry got the well earned title of “Mr Mango Man” as he packed the must-to-go tonight mangoes into cars!

Arturo brought four REFB pop-up shelters which shaded the parking lights.  But he had many lamps, so the sprinkles and darkness were not a problem.  It was strange to see the moon shining intermittently between the clouds!

“Happy New Year” was said many times.  The details of how that will become a reality vary greatly with our clients.  It remains difficult to understand why so many face food challenges in one of the wealthiest areas in the United States.  REFB and many volunteers are working hard to change that.

Thank you again to ALL our volunteers!!

BBC-Schools Christmas Book Success!
We received a couple of photos from Dunbar School! The children above were excited to receive their gifts from Patrick's Church and all those who donated to this special cause.
Thank you all who contributed to the Christmas book project for the children at Dunbar School. Members of BBC-Schools Elizabeth Romayko, Anne Phillips, Pat Coleman, Eleanor Albon, Betsy Randolf and Laurie Boone Hogen wrapped books for the children  and wrote notes of appreciation to each staff person . Anne Phillips baked delicious sugar cookies and put them in attractive boxes that also went to each staff member. The children will receive their books this Friday! Thank you all who helped make this Christmas project such a success!
