Well, welcome to 2023. We hope you had a good Christmas and New Year break and didn’t guzzle your Terry’s Chocolate Orange at one sitting (we did). Do stand by for a more significant note from us in a week or so when we launch bookings for Lunch for a Fiver.

In the meantime, here are a few items of housekeeping including guidance on when we’re open and when we’re closed over the next few weeks. There’s even the offer of a bottle of our House Fizz in your room if you’re nimble enough to find the opportunity to stay with us in Mousehole over the next couple of weekends.

All quiet in Cornwall

We finesse our Cornwall closures to make sure we’re open somewhere through most of January. So if you’re loyal to one and it’s closed, you might take the opportunity to try the other. After all, they’re only 20 minutes apart, tractors and buses notwithstanding.

The Gurnard’s Head closes first, after breakfast on this coming Monday 9. It re-opens for lunch on Thursday 19. Meanwhile, in Mousehole, The Old Coastguard remains open (including our new Lunch for Less) until after breakfast on Monday 16, re-opening for lunch on Friday 27.

Bottle in your room

We’ve some gaps in the diary at The Old Coastguard up to and including Sunday 15 January. The Winter Escape very much in place (Sunday – Thursday) and as ever remarkable value.

Or, if you stay on a Friday or Saturday between now and then, we’ll reward you with a bottle in your room of our outstanding house fizz from the Wiston Estate on the Sussex Downs.

Meanwhile in Wales...

Very straightforward in the Brecon Beacons. The Griffin closes after breakfast on Monday 9 January, re-opening for lunch on Thursday 19 January. In the meantime, we’ll be doing unspeakably expensive things to our sewage treatment system, ripping out the bathroom in Room 3 (and putting a new one back in) and giving the team a breather after an agreeably vibrant December and early January.

Lunch for a fiver

This year Lunch for a Fiver runs a little later than usual: we’ll confirm the dates when we open bookings via another of these notes in a week or so. For those in any doubt about the exact rules, here is a neat summary. Lunch for a Fiver vouchers are now only directed to those who are Friends of EDS, by email in the middle of January.
