Critical Issues Facing Young Children
Living in Poverty
A recent Child Trends report discusses how reducing poverty among our youngest children requires that we consider their unique needs and circumstances. To boost parental employment as a pathway out of poverty, families with young children need family leave and affordable, accessible, and high-quality early care and education.

Governments must address children and families’ barriers to accessing safety net programs and supports to continue the decline in rates of poverty for all children.
Click here to download a new set of resources around brain-building through play, developed with support from the LEGO Foundation, which includes a host of age-appropriate activities that are easy to do at home, or just about anywhere! In addition to all the fun, play helps develop sturdy brain architecture, the foundations of lifelong health, and the building blocks of resilience. Playful interactions with adults also help children build executive function skills.
SEL Professional Learning Network
Teachers who have positive social emotional competencies are more likely to connect with students, build positive relationships with peers, and model SEL practices that readily relate to all students.
