Fetterman Statement on Second Anniversary of 1/6 Attack on the Capitol

Washington D.C. -- On the second anniversary of the January 6th attack on the Capitol, Pennsylvania U.S. Senator John Fetterman released the following statement:

"Walking through the halls of Congress this week, I've thought a lot about the violent attack that occurred here two years ago today.

"Today, we honor the brave officers of the Capitol Police and law enforcement agencies who put the lives on the line to protect our democracy. If not for their strength and bravery, we could very well have lost our democracy.

"January 6 didn't happen in a vacuum. It was a culmination of lies, misinformation, anti-democratic rhetoric, and voter suppression tactics and legislation. And in the two years since—emboldened by just how close they came two years ago—lawmakers here in D.C. and in state legislatures across the country have continued to attempt to undermine our democracy with dangerous rhetoric sowing doubt in our elections.

"When I ran for this seat, I promised the people of Pennsylvania that I would fight back and defend our democracy. And now that I'm here, I look forward to working with my colleagues to do just that.”
