Dear <<First Name>>,

You belong to a very special group of Public Radio Tulsa supporters: Friends whose exceptional generosity makes NPR News and classical music possible for tens of thousands of listeners each week. YOU have made Public Radio Tulsa stronger for our entire community.

I'm thrilled to report to you that Public Radio Tulsa is beginning 2023 on its strongest financial footing in years. This lets us make the crucial programming decisions that best serve our audience, and maintain the complex systems that keep our stations on the air.

I want to share with you a couple of our plans for 2023:

Our first major equipment upgrade in decades.
  • Our KWGS transmitter and our four studio audio boards are over 20 years old. This equipment has long outlived its expected lifespan, and must be replaced before we experience a catastrophic failure. (Imagine trying to operate YOUR business with the computer you used 20 years ago!)

  • Therefore, we have launched a Major Equipment Capital Campaign. Our goal: To raise $500,000 by the close of 2023 to replace this fragile and aging equipment. And we are thrilled to announce that an anonymous donor will match up to $100,000 in gifts to the Major Equipment Capital Campaign.
  • For more information about the Major Equipment Capital Campaign, click HERE or contact Development Director Judith Nole at 918-631-3118 or judith-nole@utulsa.edu
Enhancing our local and regional reporting talent.
  • Our news departments, locally and at our statewide reporting collaboration, StateImpact, have been short-staffed since the pandemic. Despite challenging times in hiring, we’re closing in on being back to our pre-pandemic staffing levels.
  •
  • But we want to do more.
  •
  • This year, we’re partnering with KOSU and KGOU to submit a grant to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to jointly fund a State Capitol reporter. If approved, we’ll be one of a very few journalistic entities with a full-time Capitol reporter. And here at home, we’re actively searching for a third reporter to add to our local news team, with more to come in the future.
You’ll hear from me periodically throughout this year with updates and insights about KWGS and KWTU. In the meantime, I hope you always feel welcome to reach out to me with your questions or comments.

From all of us at Public Radio Tulsa, here’s to a stellar 2023!
With deep gratitude,

Rich Fisher, Public Radio Tulsa General Manager
