In this issue…Internet safety presentations are coming! Star Reading assessments return; early dismissal on Thursday, 1/12; end of the fall semester is coming; thank you for being a difference maker.

The San Diego Police Foundation’s award-winning SafetyNet: Smart Cyber Choices program is coming to The Winston School on Friday, February 10, 2023, for presentations to our middle and high school students. In collaboration with the San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (SD-ICAC), topics covered include:

  • Cyberbullying

  • Privacy

  • Computer Security

  • Predators

  • Sexting

  • Identity Theft

  • Plagiarism

  • Gaming

  • Social Networking

  • Sex Trafficking

Additionally, parents are invited to attend a virtual presentation on Thursday evening, February 9, at 6:30 PM to benefit from the insights students will gain by attending the assemblies the following day. Parents, please let us know if you plan to attend by clicking here.

Beginning Monday, January 9, Star Reading assessments will be underway to gauge a student's strengths and weaknesses in reading and offer specific insight into which areas need improvement. Data from this assessment will help to inform instruction, measure student progress, and identify whether or not students are meeting the expectations of state standards.

Thank you to all the supporters who answered the end-of-the-tax year call by making a gift to the 2022/23 Annual Fund.  Your gifts immediately impact every student and we are grateful for your generosity.  Our goal is to reach 100% parent participation before the end of the school year and a gift of any size helps us reach our goal.  Click here to be a difference maker.

Do you know a student who would benefit from a Winston transformative learning experience?  We are the only non-public, in-person diploma-bound program for students with learning differences in San Diego County.  We welcome students all year long with our rolling admissions policy.  Please visit our website to learn more and schedule a personalized tour to see how our innovative teaching methods set us apart while honoring students' strengths, embracing their differences, and becoming valued members of our community.

Last Chance! Classes start Sunday, January 8. Please take a moment to learn more about an 8-week sexual assault prevention program course for beginners hosted by Winston alum parent Barbara Sedgwick-Billimoria M.Ed. You can find additional details here.

Saturday School continues tomorrow, January 7, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Students, please enter through the front parking lot wooden gate outside Room 1. Teachers will contact parents if your student’s attendance is required.

There are only two Saturday School sessions left before the end of the fall semester on Friday, January 20. Students, please use this time to complete any missing assignments.
