MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear SJCS Families,
I wanted to thank you for the warm welcome during this transition. It is an honor to serve as the interim principal of St. John the Evangelist Catholic School for the remainder of the school year. SJCS teachers, support staff, students, and families are the reason for the success of our school. In my experience, a positive home school connection is so valuable to the success of our students and school. Thank you for supporting your students and our teachers and staff. I look forward to getting to know you over the next few months. If you ever have a question or concern, do not hesitate to reach out to me. MAP Testing for Winter is here! Please make sure students are rested and have a good breakfast so they can perform their best. MAP Testing will begin each day at 8:15 AM.

Help Us Welcome Our Interim Principal, Mrs. Cheri Carter!
We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Cheri Carter has been named Interim Principal for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year. Mrs. Carter was born in Thomasville and grew up in Boston, Georgia. Her husband, Joel, was born and raised in Savannah, GA and is a graduate of Benedictine Military School. Mr. and Mrs. Carter have two children. Their son, Bryce, lives in Houston, TX and is getting married on December 30th. Their daughter, Caroline, is a senior at Valdosta State University graduating in May with a degree in communication disorders and beginning her Master’s program at VSU this summer.
Mrs. Carter holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education in Early Childhood Education and a Specialist of Education in Administration and Supervision. She served as an elementary school teacher in both Brooks and Gwinnett Counties for 19 years and as an elementary school administrator for 15 years, also in Gwinnett County. Since August 2022, Mrs. Carter has served as an instructional coach at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School as part of the Catapult Learning, Inc. learning loss recovery team supported by EANS funding.
With the support of Bishop Parkes, Pastor, Fr. Brian LaBurt, the Office of Catholic Schools, and the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Parish and School communities, we are confident that Mrs. Carter will continue the tradition of excellence for which St. John the Evangelist Catholic School is known.
The search for a new school principal for the 2023-2024 school year will begin this month with the Office of Catholic Schools working with the diocesan Office of Human Resources to post the position nationally, regionally and locally. The Office of Catholic Schools will coordinate the search and we will share more information with our Parish family once the position has been posted.

Chili Cook-Off January 28
Beat winter’s chill at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Chili Supper and COOK-OFF
Saturday, January 28 @ 6:00 PM - Parish Center
Contestants will provide samples of their chili for those attending and there will be judges on hand to select the best chili in the house! Everyone will get a chance to sample chili at each booth and then have a bowl of their favorite! The winning team will be announced at the end of the evening and will be presented a "major award.”
Parish Life will provide their famous award-winning chili, chili fixins, cornbread, beverages, and fruit cobbler for dessert. Grilled cheese sandwiches will be available for the little ones!
Pay at the Door - $5 for Adults, $3 for Children 10 - 4, Free for Children 3 and Under. No family pays more than $20

PIE IN A TEACHER'S FACE FUNDRAISER GAME
Home Basketball Game - Friday, January 20 at 4:30 PM
If we raise $200, each player gets to pick a SJCS staff member to pie during Catholic Schools Week! We will be collecting donations during the game. If you can't attend, you can give online using the GoFundMe link below.

VIRTUS TRAINING
The VIRTUS Protecting God's Children training is required for all volunteers and employees in the Diocese of Savannah.
If you missed the last class, here is another chance!
***If you have already taken this class, you won't need to take it again.***
A session is scheduled at St. John the Evangelist School in Valdosta:
January 21, 2023: 9:00am – 12:00pm (3 hours)
Seating is limited and pre-registration is required online. A minimum of 10 is required to conduct the training. A LAPTOP or DESKTOP is recommended for registration. No one under the age of 18 is allowed to be present. Child care is not provided.

SJCS TALENT SHOW
As part of Catholic Schools' Week, we are hosting a talent show on Thursday, February 2. All interested students must complete an application to participate. Please click the link below to complete an application. Paper applications will also be available with each classroom teacher.
