A Message from Pastor Kevin and the Board of Elders
Dear First Free Church Family:
As announced in April, Nancy Jo Demolin will retire as Director of Worship and Creative Arts shortly. Because she graciously communicated her intentions in early 2022, the Elders have had much-needed time to conduct a thorough and prayerful search in the tall order of finding her successor. We've identified Nick Barilla as the most qualified candidate through this process. Recognizing his qualifications and the role currently envisioned for him, we've named him our Worship and Technical Arts Leader. At the recommendation of our Board of Elders to our Board of Trustees, Nick plans to join our staff on Monday, January 16, 2023.
We've chosen to start Nick in a non-director role, as his professional background to date emphasized musical more than ministerial duties; however, as he develops in this position, and particularly should he pursue incremental education and training, we believe Nick could one day grow into a director role.
Nick is a committed Christian from nearby Munhall, PA. Engaged to Liz, Nick is a California University of Pennsylvania graduate with a degree in communications and commercial music production. Nick can read, compose, arrange, and transpose music. He has deep experience in Planning Center, multi-tracks, Logic recording software, Pro Presenter, and stage design. Moreover, he primarily plays guitar (acoustic and electric) and keys and also dabbles in the bass, drums, and saxophone.
Over the years, Nick served as a worship team member at Orchard Hill Church in Wexford before serving as a part-time worship leader at Source Church in West Mifflin, a campus of Pathway Church (a sister church in our denomination, the EFCA), and, later, Unity Community Church in Plum. Since then, he's led worship at Bethel Presbyterian full-time.
Of course, moving from the leadership of a multitalented, long-tenured, and much-beloved staff member is always challenging. However, we believe that Nick loves Christ and our community deeply. We also trust that, in time, he will come to love our church just as we grow to love him and Liz in the Lord. We are further encouraged by Nancy Jo's willingness and work to help us make this transition as smooth as possible.

Shake off those winter blues at the Student Ministry Frosty February Fiesta! Students in grades 6-12 are invited to a fun day of eating, teaching, and tubing. We will gather at First Free Church for both a fiesta-inspired meal and Bible teaching time. We will then head to Boyce Park for an exciting day of snow tubing! Need more information?
